Welcome to our new Parochial Vicar, Fr. Victor Gutierrez Let us welcome Fr. Victor Gutierrez to St. Joseph’s Parish. He is the youngest of a

family of five sons and one daughter, and was born in San Miguel el Alto, Jalisco, Mexico. He was baptized as an infant, surrounded by his family and neighbors. Although it was a long time ago he still remembers the day he received his First Holy Communion at the age of seven. As a child he enjoyed playing soccer with his neighbors, he was a shy little boy, now he is still a bit shy but not a kid any more, rather a priest.

Throughout his life Fr. Victor attended public elementary and middle schools, but attended a Catholic high school. He met Auxiliary Bishop Richard Garcia who shared with him the need for bilingual priests in our Diocese. He then decided to visit Sacramento and applied for the seminary. He was accepted and began his studies at the seminary college in Mexico City for this Diocese. After he finished college, he came to United States to learn English at Sacramento State University, it was truly a challenge for him to be far from his family and learn another language. He continued his studies at Mt. Angel Seminary in St Benedict, Oregon to study Theology. In the middle of his theological studies he did his pastoral year at Assumption Parish in Truckee, as part of his training to become a priest. In that community, he experienced profound faith which in turn helped him to reflect on his vocation and see priesthood in a deeper way. After this pastoral experience, he continued his studies at Mt. Angel to finish preparing for the priesthood. His Deaconate Ordination was October 11, 2014. As a deacon he had the opportunity to serve at the wonderful parish of Queen of Peace in Salem, Oregon. He graduated in May 2015, and was ordained a priest on June 6, 2015. His first assignment was at St. Mel´s Parish in Fair Oaks and is passionate about serving the Sacramento Diocese. He feels confident that God will give him what he needs to continue this journey. He is happy to be coming to St. Joseph´s Parish in Elk Grove. Please keep him in your prayers as he continues his priestly ministry in our parish community.

All Souls Masses in November During the month of November, we remember all our

brothers and sisters; loved ones who have gone before us, in faith, to be with the Father. We pray for them at all the Masses of November and if you would like to remember your loved ones, we ask that you write their name or names on the All Souls Day Envelope. You are invited to include your donation inside the envelope and put it in the offertory basket. The names of our departed loved ones will be placed at the front of the altar and remain there throughout the month of November. Envelopes are available in the vestibule next to the bulletins.
