2. Saint Philip the Apostle Catholic Church
A Message From Our Pastor Father’s Formed.org Suggestion of the Week
MOVIES – DOUCMENTARIES Unprotected
These first weeks of Ordinary Time tell us of Christ beginning his earthly ministry. He started by calling people around him that they see his actions and hear his words to grow in faith in him, our Savior. They were each sent in their own time and way to spread the Gos-pel of God. This week we celebrate five glorious saints of the Church. We begin the week on Monday with the great traveling apostle Paul, and then the next day his two companions: Timothy and Titus. For Wednesday and Thursday we get off the extensively traveled road and have two great examples of word and deed in St. Angela Merici and St. Thomas Aquinas respectively. The faith filled lives of these great men and woman are wonderful examples to us of living our Baptismal call to live the Gospels as Jesus did and taught. Scrip-ture and tradition tell us of how Sts. Paul, Timothy, Ti-tus, Agnus, and Thomas lived their Baptismal duty. Their lives not only converted and strengthen many dur-ing their time, but continue to do so through the telling of their story. Each baptized person has the very same duty as these saints to live the Gospel in the way God calls us. At a child’s Baptism, the parents take on the responsibility of training their child in the practice of the faith. And when the child is older he/she assumes this responsibility. In adult baptisms, the adult is instructed on this responsi-bility. Therefore, we, the Baptized, are followers called by Christ to live the Gospel of God in our lives and speak it with our lips.
You can learn more about these and other saints at www.catholic.org/saints/.

Third Sunday in Ordinary Time
Jesus appeared in Galilee preaching the good news and instructing the people: “This is the time of fulfillment. The kingdom of God is at hand. Repent, and believe in the gospel.” - Mark 1:14-20
Key Scriptural Passage: Now after John was arrested, Jesus came to Galilee, proclaim-ing the good news of God, and saying, “The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God has come near; repent and believe in the good news.” (Mk 1:14-15)
Questions for Discussion: Adult: What par t of your life is Jesus calling you to change right now? Child: In what way do you think you can be a better fol-lower of Jesus?

This is not because they are squeamish or prudish. It is because if people knew what abortion really looked like, it would de-stroy their pretense that it is a civilized answer to the problem of what to do about unwanted babies.

FIRST READING - Deuteronomy 18:15-20 Moses spoke to all the people, saying: “A prophet like me will the LORD, your God, raise up for you from among your own kin; to him you shall listen. This is exactly what you requested of the LORD, your God, at Horeb on the day of the assembly, when you said, ‘Let us not again hear the voice of the LORD, our God, nor see this great fire any more, lest we die.’ And the LORD said to me, ‘This was well said. I will raise up for them a prophet like you from among their kin, and will put my words into his mouth; he shall tell them all that I command him. Whoever will not listen to my words which he speaks in my name, I myself will make him answer for it. But if a prophet presumes to speak in my name an oracle that I have not com-manded him to speak, or speaks in the name of other gods, he shall die.’”
SECOND READING - 1 Corinthians 7:32-35 Brothers and sisters: I should like you to be free of anxieties. An unmarried man is anxious about the things of the Lord, how he may please the Lord. But a married man is anxious about the things of the world, how he may please his wife, and he is divided. An unmarried woman or a virgin is anxious about the
things of the Lord, so that she may be holy in both body and spirit. A married woman, on the other hand, is anxious about the things of the world, how she may please her husband. I am tell-ing you this for your own benefit, not to impose a restraint upon you, but for the sake of propriety and adherence to the Lord without distraction.
GOSPEL - Mark 1:21-28 Then they came to Capernaum, and on the sabbath Jesus entered the synagogue and taught. The people were astonished at his teaching, for he taught them as one having authority and not as the scribes. In their synagogue was a man with an unclean spirit; he cried out, “What have you to do with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are—the Holy One of God!” Jesus rebuked him and said, “Quiet! Come out of him!” The unclean spirit convulsed him and with a loud cry came out of him. All were amazed and asked one another, “What is this? A new teaching with authority. He commands even the unclean spirits and they obey him.” His fame spread everywhere throughout the whole region of Galilee.

34th Candlelight March for Life 2021
Let your Light Shine for all the World to See
After all that has happened, who will stand with us? Who will stand for what is right and good? Who will strive to stand for the
TRUTH? God is with us -- Emmanuel! But we must ask Him for His help and for mercy on our country. Killing innocent babies by any reasoning is wrong. God help us. Open our eyes, Lord, to the Truth! “Thou shalt not kill.” Let us not be afraid of those who are on the wrong path. What can we do? We can “let our light Shine for all the world to see” that we care. So bring your flashlights and candles and let your light shine. Together let’s take a stand for the unborn! Please join us to show your commitment to the Right to Life Movement. The 34th Candlelight March will take place Thurs-day, Jan. 28. We will gather at 6:30 p.m. in DeLeon Plaza; the march begins at 7:00 p.m. Please bring a
candle or flashlight. We will pray the rosary while walking to Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church where we will have a guest speaker. Those who cannot
walk can meet at the church.
There will be transportation back to DeLeon Plaza. Eve-ryone who is pro-life is encouraged to come. This year’s speaker will begin following the March. She has a very powerful story you don’t want to miss. Bernie Seale, St. Gianna Beretta Molla Pro-Life Ministry, Holy Family Catholic Church
A Prayer for the Wood-Lot... DEAR Lord Jesus, ever since You were nailed to the cross, wood has become a sacred thing. In every tree we are once more reminded of Your great love for us. Bless these trees of ours, let them grow tall and strong and reach full ma-turity without any injury. Keep far from them the terrible force of lightning. Let them not be torn and broken by the impact of strong winds. May they have a plentiful supply of water, and be protected from every blight and worm and in-sect. May they always be a reminder to us, Lord, of Your glori-ous passion and death. May they help us to re-member always that we are Christians, and that, as such, we must follow You our leader, Jesus Christ crucified. We must be willing to take up our cross daily, and follow You. Then will we also reap the fruit of our labors, and rise to a new life with You, because we have been will-ing to suffer with You. Amen. _______________________________________________
From Scripture….Growing in Faith… Mark 1:14-20… The Common Call
When we read about the way Jesus gathered his followers, it seems almost casual. For example, he passed the Sea of Galilee, saw Andrew and Simon and called them. It’s as if these men left their homes and livelihoods to follow Jesus with little thought. After all, he was a stranger to most. We must conclude that there was something very compelling about Jesus and his call to them. With hindsight, we know that Jesus’ message was worth leaving everything behind. In fact, we know that true disci-pleship means leaving everything and surrendering to the will of God. He will provide whatever a disciple needs to follow him but nothing comes before our relationship with God The compelling part of his call is the chance to serve him and be close to him. Jesus chose twelve special people to be his closest followers and be became their leader. They went where he told them and did what he asked. Jesus is still call-ing people to follow him today. In fact, he has called each of
