A Message From Our Pastor Father’s Formed.org Suggestion of the Week
MOVIES – Kids - The Eucharist for Little Children
Homepage – Faith at Home - Presence For Children: The Miracle at Every Mass
The palms for Passion Sunday arrive this week and reori-ented my focus on that which is most important. Our salva-tion through the Lord Jesus Christ who became incarnate that he might raise up that which was fallen—our human nature. This is that on which we should have our focus, especially now. With fear of the Coronavirus high, we have been faced with a pandemic that has brought much trepidation. Reports can easily consume our days and paralyze us from acting in God’s love. These updates, while informative, can serve to increase our fear. As I preached last week, God can bring good out of an evil. God gave us the ultimate good from the ultimate evil—salvation from the crucifixion of His Son. God, in His goodness, can make good come from our current situa-tion. We began Lent in the usual way by receiving ashes on our foreheads, and heard those words: Remember that you are dust and to dust you shall return. Rarely is death made so real to so many at the same time. We have been faced with the reality of our mortality and it has scared us. The season of Lent helps us more greatly understand our need for God, and with a healthy fear of COVID 19, we can still hope in the love of God that will prevail. Our reflection on human mortality will make way to the joy of the Resurrec-tion in two weeks. Let us turn to God now resting in His merciful arms to be prepared to celebrate with Him humani-ty’s salvation.

Do You Want To Fast This Lent? In the words of Pope Francis
Fast from hurting words and say kind words.
Fast from sadness and be filled with gratitude.
Fast from anger and be filled with patience.
Fast from pessimism and be filled with hope.
Fast from worries and have trust in God.
Fast from complaints and contemplate simplicity.
Fast from pressures and be prayerful.
Fast from bitterness and fill your hearts with joy.
Fast from selfishness and be compassionate to others.
Fast from judges and be reconciled.
Fast from words and be silent so you can listen.
Holy Virgin of Guadalupe, Queen of the Angels and Mother of the Americas. We fly to you today as your be-loved children. We ask you to intercede for us with your Son, as you did at the wedding in Cana. Pray for us, loving Mother, and gain for our nation and world, and for all our families and loved ones, the protec-tion of your holy angels, that we may be spared the worst of this illness. For those already afflicted, we ask you to obtain the grace of healing and deliverance. Hear the cries of those who are vulnerable and fearful, wipe away their tears and help them to trust. In this time of trial and testing, teach all of us in the Church to love one another and to be pa-tient and kind. Help us to bring the peace of Jesus to our land and to our hearts. We come to you with confidence, know-ing that you truly are our compassionate mother, health of the sick and cause of our joy. Shelter us under the mantle of your pro-tection, keep us in the embrace of your arms, help us always to know the love of your Son, Jesus. Amen.

FIRST READING - Isaiah 50:4-7 The Lord GOD has given me a well-trained tongue, that I might know how to speak to the weary a word that will rouse them. Morning after morning he opens my ear that I may hear; and I have not rebelled, have not turned back. I gave my back to those who beat me, my cheeks to those who plucked my beard; my face I did not shield from buffets and spitting. The Lord GOD is my help, therefore I am not disgraced; I have set my face like flint, knowing that I shall not be put to shame.
SECOND READING - Philippians 2:6-11
Christ Jesus, though he was in the form of God, did not regard equality with God something to be grasped. Rather, he emptied himself, taking the form of a slave, coming in human likeness; and found human in appearance, he humbled himself, becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. Because of this, God greatly exalted him and bestowed on him the name which is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bend, of those in heaven and on earth and un-der the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
GOSPEL - Matthew:26:14-26:66
The Passion of Christ is not simply a record of Jesus’ suffering and death. It is a process through which all of us must go, indeed, are privileged to go. The reason we undertake the annual lenten pilgrimage is to get somewhere. Easter is that somewhere, but there is no Easter without Jesus’ passion. Neither is there an East-er in our lives without our sharing in that Passion. But to what sort of passion are we summoned? Are we to be be-trayed, abandoned by friends, condemned, and put to physical death? For some of us, the answer may be yes. But for all of us, the passion we are called to share mirrors Jesus’ passion in a way that, while not so concrete, is nonetheless very real. We are called to share the passion of letting go of selfish desires, of grasping, of being pretentious, of wearing masks. The Passion of Christ calls us to be-come vulnerable as Jesus was vulnerable, to wear our hearts on our sleeves, to forgive rather than to seek revenge, to call out resolutely for wholeness and not for division, and to give ourselves over completely to life.
Key Scriptural Passage: Jesus said to Martha, “ I am the resurrection and the life. Those who believe in me, even though they die, will live, and everyone who lives and believes in me will never die. Do you believe this?” (John 11:25-26)
Questions for Discussion: Adult: How does belief in the final resur rection from the dead affect your family’s daily life? Child: What do you hope for after your life on ear th is end-ed?
Readings For The Week Monday…………..Dn 13:1-9,15-17,19-30/Jn 8:1-11 Tuesday…………..Nm 21:4-9/Jn 8:21-30 Wednesday……….Dn 3:14-20,91-92/Jn 8:31-42 Thursday………….Gn 17:3-9/Jn 8:51-59 Friday……………..Jer 20:10-13/Jn 10:31-42 Saturday…………..Ez 37:21-28/Jn 11:45-56
Symbol of the Season...Fasting Fasting, one of the Lenten practices, is often observed as fasting from food. It is not because our bodies need to be punished. We fast to allow physical hunger to remind us of our spiritual hunger, our need for God. We fast to remind ourselves of our baptismal commit-ment and need for renewal. Second, fasting not only reminds us of our dependence on God, but also on the needs of others, the hungry and the poor. Fasting is a gospel value, but not fasting by itself. Fasting and almsgiving are gospel twins. Our tradition of fasting has never been to purge, to deprive the body for deprivation sake, but to have more to give away.
