St Philip the Apostle PTO Service Awards
The Awards Monsignor Parker Service Award This award commemorates service to the school. Monsignor Parker was the pastor at St. Philip the Apostle School from 1982 to 1986. His devotion to the school was apparent to all that served under him. In fact, he hired Elizabeth Mahoney to lead the school. His tenure as pastor was short due to his untimely death, but he memorialized himself as a humble servant of our Lord. Service over a period of time as opposed to current year volunteerism is the basis for this award. A cumulative record of service of any nature that benefits the school merits consideration for this award. Elizabeth A. Mahoney Leadership Award This award commemorates persons who have made an outstanding and long lasting contribution to the school by virtue of various roles they have played in a leadership capacity. Liz arrived at the school in 1984 when it was in a state of crisis. She was a visionary and rebuilt the school, leaving it as the premiere parish school in Pasadena. Her leadership, vision and sense of community set the course for the school, as we know it today. Leadership at large across all aspects of PTO, school board and school activities are the basis for this award. Elizabeth Ann Seton Service Award St. Elizabeth Ann Seton attained sainthood in the 20th century as a result of her many accomplishments in life, not the least of which is the founding of the Sisters of Charity. This award recognizes volunteerism in the current year by a parent or parishioner that goes well beyond the required or expected level. The recipient shall be an individual who has, this year for the first time in their experience at the school, become involved in a volunteer role.
Process and General Criteria Who Can Nominate? PTO board members, school board members, faculty/staff, past PTO presidents and all members of the St. Philip the Apostle Parish and School community. Who Can be Nominated? Any school parent, faculty/staff member or parishioner who has served in a leadership or service role. Current PTO board members are not eligible to receive an award. Recipient Determination Please use the attached nomination form and return nominations to the school office. All nominations shall be reviewed by the PTO Board. Recommendations will be voted upon by the entire board and a record of the vote taken by the board secretary. The executive committee of the board will make the final determination of the recipients for each of the PTO awards. The pastor and principal shall be eligible to nominate but shall not have a vote, as these are PTO awards. Cumulative service records shall guide the determination of recipients for the Elizabeth A. Mahoney and Monsignor Parker awards. The secretary of the PTO shall keep all nomination forms in the master PTO book which shall be kept by the president so that it may accessed by all future PTO presidents. This list shall be shared with the board at large so that they, too, may know the candidates who were nominated over multiple years.
