The Christmas Bazaar begins tomorrow and runs through Thursday, the 10th!

We still need a few fun-loving elves to help as personal shoppers or gift wrappers! Can only stay for an hour? That’s OK! Many hands make light work. ALL volunteer elves will be fed a light breakfast and lunch! Please visit Sign Up Genius to review all the volunteer opportunities and sign up: http://www.signupgenius.com/go/30e084caca628a57-20155/3969597.

Donations of colored tissue paper, wrapping paper, various sizes of gift bags and tape are still welcome. These can be dropped off in the school office at any time. Please label your donations as “Christmas Bazaar”.

Raffles will be sold at the Christmas Bazaar, 2 tickets for $1. A variety of prizes will be on display at the Bazaar. Children will put their name & grade on each raffle ticket and place them in the bag in front of each prize they’d like to win. Don’t forget to denote the number of raffles your child is allowed to purchase on the approval form.

Approval form / gift lists and gift tags were sent home last week. If you haven’t already, don’t forget to send the form in with your student tomorrow so they may be ready to shop! Only what they spend will be charged to your FACTS account.

Health Clinic News As we begin the start of cold and flu season, we are all mindful that airborne illnesses are passed around readily in the classroom environment. While everyone is breathing the same air, touching the same objects and sitting close together for work activities it is nearly impossible to prevent the spread of germs. In the early hours/days of a new infectious process, the number of germs spread is very high. Once our bodies begin to fight these germs, the number of them available to be shared with others dramatically decreases. The lesson here is a simple one. Whenever possible during the first 24-48 hours of feeling sick, staying home, resting and drinking fluids can actually promote a faster recovery from illness. Resting the body allows the immune system to do its main job-fighting germs. These measures will also minimize the spread of germs to others. Ultimately, this will result in fewer days missed from school for everyone. Some simple measures to help ward off both cold and flu viruses include:

Wash your hands and wash them often.

Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when you cough or sneeze, then discard the tissue or

cough or sneeze into your upper sleeve, not your hands.

Don’t touch your face-teach your children to keep hands off eyes, nose and mouth.

Drink plenty of fluids-water being the best.

Incorporate dark green, red and yellow fruits and vegetables into meal planning.

Be sure and allow for relaxing downtime and proper rest.

Should your child become ill with fever or nausea/vomiting please follow the Parent-Student Handbook guidelines which require a student to be fever free/symptom free for 24 hours without taking anti-fever medications before returning to school and extracurricular activities.

Donations for the Teacher & Staff Christmas Exchange The PTO will have its annual Christmas Luncheon for the St. Francis Staff & Teachers on Friday, December 18th after dismissal. Volunteers are needed to provide donations of dessert or wine that the staff and teachers will take home for their holiday entertaining. This is a small token of thanks to each of them for all their hard work throughout year. Wrapped wine can be dropped off at the school office anytime. Dessert should be dropped off at morning carpool on the 18th. If you can provide a donation or your time during the luncheon, please visit SignUp Genius to volunteer: http://www.signupgenius.com/go/30e084caca628a57-20156.
