20th Sunday in Ordinary Time

Find the Missal (Ordinary of the Mass) at 150 in Oramos Cantando/We Pray in Song

First Reading PRV 9:1-6

Wisdom has built her house, she has set up her seven columns; she has dressed her meat, mixed her wine, yes, she has spread her

table. She has sent out her maidens; she calls from the heights out over the city: "Let whoever is simple turn in here; To the one

who lacks understanding, she says, Come, eat of my food, and drink of the wine I have mixed! Forsake foolishness that you may

live; advance in the way of understanding."

Responsorial Psalm PS 34 R. Taste and see the goodness of the Lord.

Second Reading EPH 5:15-20

Brothers and sisters: Watch carefully how you live, not as foolish persons but as wise, making the most of the opportunity, because

the days are evil. Therefore, do not continue in ignorance, but try to understand what is the will of the Lord. And do not get drunk

on wine, in which lies debauchery, but be filled with the Spirit, addressing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs,

singing and playing to the Lord in your hearts, giving thanks always and for everything in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ to

God the Father.

Gospel JN 6:51-58

Jesus said to the crowds: "I am the living bread that came down from heaven; whoever eats this bread will live forever; and the

bread that I will give is my flesh for the life of the world." The Jews quarreled among themselves, saying, "How can this man give

us his flesh to eat?" Jesus said to them, "Amen, amen, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood,

you do not have life within you. Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him on the last day.

For my flesh is true food, and my blood is true drink. Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood remains in me and I in him.

Just as the living Father sent me and I have life because of the Father, so also the one who feeds on me will have life because of

me. This is the bread that came down from heaven. Unlike your ancestors who ate and still died, whoever eats this bread will live

forever."

El Misal (Ordinario de la Misa) esta en Oramos Cantando/We Pray in Song a Partir de 150

Primera lectura Prv 9, 1-6

St. Pius V Catholic Church August 19, 2018

Many times, we overlook how important our faith family is in God’s work. Sometimes the simplest things bring us together. Just as Jesus gave us food

and brought people together over “bread”, we also come together around the table of the Eucharist. We gather at other times to pray or conduct a meet-

ing and many times we have food at those gatherings. How many times have you gone to our Festival or a meeting and had something delicious and

wished you had the recipe. Beginning Friday, September 7, we will begin:

FOODIE FRIDAYS: Nourishment for the Body and Soul on our Facebook page. We will post a parishioner’s recipe with a spiritual quote, scrip-

ture or prayer. WE NEED YOUR RECIPES THAT EVERYONE ALWAYS ASKS YOU TO SHARE! Some of you might have special prayers,

scripture passages or inspiration quotes that you would like to share. You can email me your recipe or prayers at [email protected] or drop

off a copy for Connie Wilson at the office.

¡RECETAS NECESARIAS!

¿Cuántas veces has ido a

RECIPES NEEDED! I always get what I think are my best ideas

while I’m in the shower. The only problem

is I can’t write them down! Last week

while standing in the shower, I began re-

flecting on the Bread of Life Dialogues that

we have heard in the scriptures for the last

few weeks. I thought about how many ways

we are nourished by God.

Living Our Faith... Parish Social Ministry Characteristics of an Everyday Steward... mindful, prayerful, grateful, gracious, committed, and accountable. This week we are discussing being

gracious. Gracious means many things: kind, pleasant, courteous, merciful, and compassionate. We sing about graciousness in the Gloria every Sunday

when we sing for “peace to men of good will.” We lift up men of good will, gracious, because they are touched and proclaim the grace of good will to

all.

Hospitality is the fruit of being gracious. When we are hospitable, we welcome Jesus into our midst, and we also become Jesus for the person we are

hospitable with.

Stewardship principles dictate that we must treat all of creation in a gracious manner. In Everyday stewardship spirituality, we are constantly called on

throughout the day to be gracious. To be welcoming and hospitable will mold our attitude towards the world and will assist in the evangelization of that

world.

Viviendo nuestra fe....
