A PERSONAL RESPONSE OF FAITH

Today’s Gospel starts with a conversation with which Jesus begins his

journey to Jerusalem—and the cross. As his followers, we strive to march with

him, even to the cross.

Paul’s Letter to the Galatians tells us that we who have been baptized

have “clothed” ourselves with Christ. Being one with Christ, we must no longer

discriminate according to nationality or race, according to social status, accord-

ing

to gender.

The prophet Zechariah, centuries before anyone heard of Jesus, spoke of

how the people find God’s message uncomfortable, and so turn against the

messengers. Later, though, the people awaken to the realization of what they

have done and are moved to repentance. Thus, they are always welcomed back

by God, who always gives us grace to do the right thing, however difficult it

may be.

BRENT BULLARD is married to Cathy and they have two daughters, Charleigh (6 months) and Callie (5) who will be in K5 this Fall. Brent is a lifetime parishioner who attended St. A‟s School for 7 years. He is employed by Hicks Well Service. For 14 years he has been Scout Master for troop #54; he has helped with the recycling paper barn project for 5 years, played guitar for a year for 11:15 Mass until he became a busy father, and says, if elected to the school board, “It would be good to know what is going on with the school and to get better and more involved.”

CHRIS GROTEGUT is married to Judith and they have twin sons, Josef and Johan, who will be in K5 next Fall at St. Anthony. Chris is in the livestock business as veterinarian-farmer-ag man who has been a member of St. Mary‟s in Umbarger since birth until his family‟s transfer 2 years ago, to be part of St. Anthony Parish and School. He puts his name in nomination for school board because “We actually live in the historical boundaries of St. Anthony Parish and moved our membership here in order to be present for the children and the school, long term.” He added “Basically, it is a place where I can contribute to watching out for the needs of the students and the faculty.”

VOTE FOR TWO to serve SCHOOL BOARD:

Must be at least age 18 and an active member on St.

Anthony Parish list.

JASON JESKO is married to wife Dawn, they have daughter Kinley (3) and son Nehemiah (10 months). Kinley will attend St. A‟s School this Fall and Jason says, by way of getting elected “I hope to have the school ready for her.” He has farmed for 10 years at Westway, has no hobbies, is Grand Knight for the K of C‟s (3 years of his 6 years with the men‟s group) Jason attended St. A‟s School for three years as a child – K5, 1st and 2nd grades.

LISA BLAKELY married Robbie Blakely 36 years ago, they have 5 children and 6 grandchildren, and she has been a member of St. Anthony Parish for 33 years. She has served on the council before and welcomes the chance to do so again, is a 20 year (total years) catechist for CFC, RCIA, and Family Sacramental Prep, served 15 years on the SAPO Core Team and is currently co-director of RCIA. She once served on the liturgical committee (when one existed), is a Lector, and said “It would be an honor to be able to serve on the Council again, if elected.”

VOTE FOR TWO WOMEN TWO MEN: PASTORAL COUNCIL aka PARISH COUNCIL:

FARRON URBANCZYK writes “I married Greg and we have been married for almost 11 won-derful years. We have 3 children: Dylan, Gavin, and Colton. I am employed as a 4 th grade teacher at St. Anthony Catholic School and have been for the past 2 years. I also serve as a Eucharistic Minister. I wish to serve on the Pastoral Council in a meaningful way to continue to develop this wonderful Christian community of faith and action.” Farron is a Eucharistic Minister, a catechist in the school, and came into the Church through RCIA and helps with

hospitality for new RCIA groups.

GERALD MARNELL is married to Denise Marnell. He is a lifelong member of St. Anthony Church and a farmer and rancher in west Deaf Smith County. He graduated from St. Anthony School as well as did all three of their daughters. He is currently a Communion Minister to the Sick and member of the Cemetery Committee. Gerald says “Faith is a gift and needs to be nourished. It is the job of the Pas-toral Council to help Father John nourish the faith at St. Anthony‟s.”

DAVID FETSCH, married Cindy 22 years ago here at St. Anthony‟s - his parish since birth; they have two sons, two daughters. David farms north of Hereford and is a 25-20 year member of the Knights of Colum-bus; he formerly served on the parish council and the cemetery committee. His hobby is cooking, especially BBQ-ing and has fed „the masses‟ in St. Anthony Parish and School at numerous events over the years, cooking for the RCIA Retreatants every Palm Sunday for 17 years. In his words “I said yes to this nomina-tion because Father John and The Lord are telling us we should say “yes” to doing God‟s work. If the people elect me, I will do my best to do that.”

COOKIE STEVENS (formerly Cookie Tarr) has been a member of St. Anthony‟s Parish over 30 years. She has 3 grown children and 3 granddaughters. “I married Jimmy Stevens April 27, 2013 “at last” :) after he completed the RCIA process. I currently am a Lector and help with the parish youth at various events and I have helped with RCIA hospitality.” She wonders, through this chance at being elected to the Pas-toral Council, “What is my gift for thanking God today?” Cookie has also served on the ACTS Team for a Women‟s Diocesan Retreat.

ERNEST FLOOD has been married to Carmen for 47 years and joined the Church in 1988; they have 4 sons and 6 grandchildren. He has spent his life in agribusiness and has served on the pastoral council for 1term, putting his name into nomination again, saying “I would like to encourage people to become involved in our parish so together we can come up with new ideas for growing in our faith.” Ernest has been a Com-munion Minister for 10 years, has served as parish core leader for Why Catholic?, is in the Men‟s Choir, and has been a Lector. He also was co-director for RCIA for 7 years, following up as an RCIA guest catechist-Team member for many years.

BARBARA YAVORNIK writes “I was born in Olympia, Washington. graduated high school and col-lege in the Evergreen State where I met and married my husband Ed. We arrived in Texas in 1987 and have been members of St . Anthony's since that time. I went back to school and earned my Master's degree from WTAMU. (Go Buffs) Ed's Mom is a resident at Hereford Care Center. Ed is the General Manager of the Hereford Country Club and I am a Kindergarten teacher at Bluebonnet Ele-mentary. We are both life long Catholics. We are so happy and blessed to be members of St. An-thony's. It would be an honor to be on the parish council. I was on it many years ago and recommend it for every-one, as you find out what is happening at St. Anthony's and can contribute in this way. I have served St. Anthony's as a lector, Eucharistic minister and greeter.

RONNIE FETSCH, married to Debbie for 30 years, they have two sons; he farms north of Hereford. He has been a Knight of Columbus since age 18 ( 32 years). He attended St. Anthony School from 1st through 6th and is a lifelong member of the parish. He is a Eucharistic Minister and has been involved on teams for the A.C.T.S. Retreats. Ronnie enjoys cooking for the many activities offering food in the parish and for LifeTeen. He serves currently on the cemetery committee. Ronnie has served on the Parish Council before and said “I feel that I can contribute to the parish council by continuing my service to the parish, along with my family…” Also “When I hear Father John preach that God wants our „yes‟ this seems like the way to go and see what happens.”

“If you want to get yourself to do something, get yourself to love doing it! Whatever you love to do, you’re

always eager to do.” (Proved in my job as bulletin and newsletter Editor—For the glory of God!)
