Dear gentlemen: I wanted to let you know of a decision to drop, From This Moment On, from our list of new music for 2012. The version which was ordered is very different (much slower) than we (some Music Committee members) expected. After hearing Committee member concerns and talking with our Director Jack, it was decided that we should drop this piece. For those of you who have been working on this song, I apologize for this timing. However, we wish also to hear our member's concerns and inform you in a reasonably timely manner. I hope each of you has a happy and joyous New Year! Sincerely, Walt Dowling

Notes of Interest …………………… Please send notes of your quartet’s outings, Shows that you have seen, Quartet or Chorus news from around New England to: [email protected] That Old Quartet of Mine From Glen Walton: Members of The Maine Difference quartet from decades ago got together for an updated photo and some old memories on Christmas Eve this year. They are from left to right, Bob Hazelton, Larry Newth, Glenn Walton, and Bill McCauley. The quartet's first promotional photo had the quartet standing in tuxedos around a large wooden step ladder...This shot was much less unique or formal, but still just as fun.

Instead, the School Board has decided to actually start charging the fees for room usage that have been on the books for ages, just not applied to us and other "outside" groups who cannot claim at least 80% of their members as Yarmouth residents. The hourly fee for the cafeteria, starting Jan.1st is $27/hr. Fees for other rooms are $20/hr. Days when school is not in session, like Monday, Jan. 2 would also entail a custodial fee of $120 to open and close the place for us. We are supposed to turn in our keys. So if we are signed up for 3 hours use on a holiday, vacation, or Summer Monday, our cost will be 3 x $27 + $120 = $201 ! Does anyone have an alternative location possibility we should look at, and somewhere, even a sing-out location where we could also rehearse for this Monday and also Jan. 16 (MLK day). I need to let Yarmouth Comm. Services know by Friday afternoon if we want to use HMS on Jan 2. What a lump of coal in our stocking!

[BOD] Fees for use of HMS Gentlemen. Please know that our incoming Pres., Mr. Granville Barrows, has asked me to help out in trying to resolve this issue, and this message is forwarded to the Membership with Gran's blessing. Also, we, the Board of Directors, realize that this chorus does not belong to us, and any and all decisions that may be made, are in the best interest of your chorus. Today, some ground work has been made in trying to establish a meeting place, several contacts have been made, and 3 of your Board members will be reviewing some of these places and talking with Administrators of these facilities tomorrow morning. Again, this is being done with Gran's sanction and he is being kept up to date by phone and e-mail. We, the leadership team, will do our very best to resolve this situation. Thank you. In Harmony. Marshall

Upcoming Installation Banquet…… Good evening, Gentlemen. Mr. Granville Barrows, our recently elected President, and his committee of one, Larry Newth, have arrived at a Date, Location and Time for our installation banquet and related activities. They have also asked me to inform The Downeasters membership of that information. The Downeasters Chorus 2012 Installation Banquet and related activities, will be held Saturday, Jan. 28, 2012 at DiSanto's American and Italian Cuisine, 322 West Gray Rd., Gray, ME., which is Rte. 115, as well as US 202. This is a full service restaurant, easily accessible from Maine Turnpike exit 63, U.S. 302, as well as Rte 26. More directions will be made available as we go along. It has been suggested that social hour be from 6:00PM, to 7:00PM., dinner will be served beginning at 7:00PM. The current BOD voted unanimously to take this approach for this occasion, which is the way we used to do it in the good old days.! However, in order to sweeten the pot and perhaps make it affordable for more of our members to attend this function, we will be compensating all ACTIVE ATTENDING MEMBERS, with $20.00 toward their meal, etc., and members would be responsible for paying out of pocket for anything over that, as well as paying all expenses for spouses or guests. The method of getting this $20.00 to those who qualify, is still a work in progress. The most important thing we need from you at this time, is to contact me ASAP with an answer, YES, I will be attending, and how many will be in your group, or NO, I am unable to attend. Larry has one room reserved that will seat about 50, but we have the option of having a 2nd, adjoining room if we get a good response. So, PLEASE, respond to these as soon as you are able. I know, it's Christmas time, but we are also trying to get a job done..... PLEASE.....notify me, either way, along with you menu choices. Here is a suggested menu as selected by Larry Newth; POULTRY Baked stuffed chicken breast $22.00 BEEF Prime rib 26.00 SEAFOOD Baked stuffed haddock 24.00 VEGETARIAN Linguine marinara 19.00 All include an appetizer of either garden salad, Caesar salad, French onion soup, or, soup du jour. In addition, all

entrees are served with a fresh vegetable, potato, pasta or long grain wild rice, Italian bread, and coffee, tea or soda. There will be a cash bar. Gratuities will be added to the individual bills. It is urgent that you contact me at [email protected], and let me know if you will be there, how many in your party, and your choice (s) from the menu. Have a wonderful, joyous Christmas. Please send me an answer..... Marshall Wagner Silk City Chorus – Manchester, CT Annual Show Hi to all – My favorite recent BHS champion is Crossroads. They will be in Manchester on January 14th -- two shows -- afternoon and evening. They don't get much closer than this -- they are in high demand and only do two shows a month. I'm attaching a flyer in case you're interested. You can purchase tickets right off the chapter's website. It will be a terrific show.
