"In Remembrance" Sheets: "In Remembrance" Sheets can be found in the back of the church. Please feel free to take one and fill it out. You can return them to the Church Office or they can be placed in the offertory basket. These sheets will be placed in the Book of Remembrance which will sit at the foot of the altar during the month of November and these members will be added to our Mass offerings for the entire month of November. Part of our duty as the Church Militant is to pray for the dead so that they may enter heaven sooner.

St Peter’s Altar Society will be selling raffle tickets for the 2019 Quilt raffle this weekend. The tickets are still $1.00 or 6 for $5.00. Drawing will be at the Bazaar on November 23rd. Funds raised by the Altar Society are used to help pay for Altar Supplies (host, wine, candles, linens, cleaning, laundry, and funeral luncheons.) Also any special requests by our Pastor, and special projects for the youth group and St. Mary’s Academy.

EVENTS OF THE WEEK October 26th - November 3rd "Protection of God's Children" Parent meeting for Spanish Speak-ers: Our Parent Meeting for Spanish Speakers will next Tuesday, October 29th. This is a meeting explaining the content of our "Protecting God's Children" curriculum we will be sharing with your children over the next few weeks. This is a nationwide program that all Diocese are required to incorporate into their programs. The meeting will begin at 6:30pm in the Fireside Room and PLEASE DO NOT BRING CHILDREN TO THIS MEETING. "Protecting God's Children" St. Peter Confirmation Candidates Retreat: This is a reminder that we will have a retreat for Confirma-tion Candidates on Saturday, November 16th from 9am-Noon. We will hold the retreat in the St. Peter Parish Hall. Confirmation Workshop I: Reminder for all SMA and St. Peter Con-firmation Candidates, our first workshop is coming up on Tuesday, November 5th. The workshop will begin at 6:30pm in the Parish Hall. Please do not be late. Remember Candidates are required to attend all workshops and retreats. SMA and English Speaking St. Peter Sacramental Prep Update: Parents this is a reminder that if your child is preparing to receive sacraments either this year or next year and attends SMA or the St. Peter English and Spanish Speaking Sacramental Prep programs (Confirmation, First Communion Prep Level 1 and Level 2) they need to be attending Mass weekly, either at the Saturday Vigil Mass or one of the two Masses on Sundays as well as other prescribed Holy Days of Obligation and turning in their Mass journal forms. This is part of the requirements to complete their preparation to receive the sacrament. P.S. November 1st is a Holy Day of Obligation - All Saints Day. English Speaking RE Homework Night: English Speaking RE Home-work Night will be at 6:30pm. Homework Nights are required for all St. Peter students preparing to receive a Sacrament this year. Confirmation Candidates will meet in the Parish Hall and Level 1 & Level 2 First Communion Prep students will meet in the Fire-side Room. Students will not be excused for sports practices or games. Now that we are working toward completion of our first quarter it is time for all of us to take this quote from Pope John the XXIII to heart. We begin new projects, stress about grades, worry about what we haven’t done well. Let us put that same energy into possibilities. Every student, teacher, parent, individual has great potential. When we take to heart what is good and possible our souls are filled with hope. Let us not ponder on the “what ifs” but on the “WHAT IS POSSIBLE!” Our students did a very good job as we practiced a lockdown drill on Tuesday. The local police agencies complimented us on our first drill. We will have a number of drills throughout the school year with local law enforcement assisting us in the process. Thank you for your support as we work to keep your students safe. Good job for all of our walk to schoolers. Every Wednesday will be Walk to School Wednesday’s. Students can join Ms. Vassar and many of the other teachers at the corner of 10th Street and Trevitt to walk to school at 7:15 a.m. This is a fun event. We had 39 students, teachers, parents and grandparents participate last week. Let’s see if we can do it again each week. This is a great and safe way to get exercise and show some school spirit. Parishioners are always welcome. During October St. Mary’s will be collecting clean gently used or new warm coats and socks for those in need. Please look through your closet and see if you are able to help with this month’s mission of collecting coats and socks for others. A large drop off box is located in the front entrance.
Ahora que estamos trabajando para completar nuestro primer trimestre, es hora de que todos tomemos en serio esta cita del Papa Juan XXIII. Comenzamos nuevos proyectos, nos preocupamos por las calificaciones, nos preocupamos por lo que no hemos hecho bien. Pongamos esa misma energía en posibilidades. Cada estudiante, maestro, padre, individuo tiene un gran potencial. Cuando tomamos en serio lo que es bueno y posible, nuestras almas están llenas de esperanza. No reflexionemos sobre el "qué pasaría si" sino en el "¡QUÉ ES POSIBLE!" Nuestros estudiantes hicieron un muy buen trabajo ya que practicamos un simulacro de cierre el martes. Las agencias de policía locales nos felicitaron en nuestro primer simulacro. Tendremos varios simulacros a lo largo del año escolar con la policía local que nos ayudará en el proceso. Gracias por su apoyo mientras trabajamos para mantener seguros a sus estudiantes. Buen trabajo para todos nuestros alumnos que participan en la caminata a los escolares. Todos los miércoles será Walk to School los miércoles. From the Pastor’s Desk – Fr. Levine- Remember to keep holy the sabbath day. Six days you may labor and do all your work, but the seventh day is the sabbath of the Lord your God. No work may be done … In six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, the sea and all that is in them; but on the seventh day he rested. That is why the Lord blessed the sabbath day and made it holy. (Ex 20:8-11) Jesus was accused of being a sabbath breaker, but he came to fulfill the law, not to abolish it. (cf. Mt 5:17-19) The heal-ing work he accomplished on the sabbath was not ‘his’ work, but his Father’s work. My Father is at work until now, so I am at work. (Jn 5:17) This ‘work’ was made necessary because the purity of the original creation was broken by Adam’s sin. So Jesus perfectly fulfilled the law of Moses first by completing the work of redemption on the sixth day, Good Fri-day, when he gave his life upon the Cross, saying, It is finished. (Jn 19:30) Next he perfectly fulfilled the sabbath by resting in the tomb on the seventh day, while his Mother, the Virgin Mary, kept alive the light of faith, awaiting the dawn of the resurrection and the new creation. Now, the sabbath has not disappeared, but it has rather been transformed in Christ; it has been moved to the first day of the week, Sunday, and has become ‘the Lord’s Day’. If we were to be so bold as to rephrase the commandment to reflect the way this transformation in Christ, we would say something like: “Remember to keep holy the Lord’s Day for it is the beginning of the new creation in Christ. On that day you must rest in him so as to receive new life, the life of grace, from him. Let everything that you think, do, or say proceed from him and return to God the Father through him. Begin the week with this rest in Christ and then complete the work of the remaining six days, living from the life of grace he has given you. Complete the work of the remaining days of this passing world with your eye always on the day of the resurrection, the day of judgment, the day of the new heavens and earth, when God will make all things new.” (cf. Rev 21:1, 5) The observance of the Lord’s Day is a commandment of God that is specified by a precept of the Church, the require-ment to attend Mass on Sundays and Holy Days. The Church makes this specification in virtue of the authority granted her by Christ himself, Whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven. (Mt 16:19) Now, the first requirement of Christians on Sunday is to attend Mass. This is right and just. It is right and just because the Mass brings us into the very heart of the Lord’s Day. In the Mass we remember and pro-claim the work of redemption, the work of re-creation, in Christ, which was brought about by Jesus’ death and resurrec-tion. Even more, that work is made effective and operative here and now. When we are nourished by the sacrifice and sacrament of Christ’s Body and Blood, the new creation begins in us. To profess faith in Jesus Christ and deny the need to attend Mass on Sunday effectively declares that we have no need of Christ’s people the Church and effectively denies the very faith we profess by refusing to be re-created in him. Note, further, that in the original commandment God told the people, six days you may labor and do your work. That means the seventh day the people were supposed put aside their own work, their own needs, and dedicate the day to God, to God’s work. Often we might look forward to Sunday thinking, “Now it is a day for me to do what I want.” Our thinking is backwards. Sunday rather is the one day in the week, above all dedicated to God’s work, to doing his will. His will is that we love God above all things and love our neighbor as ourselves for love of God. From Sunday, we carry God’s will into the rest of the week. On Sunday we practice the love of God by attending Mass, by giving extra time to prayer, and by study of the word of God and the teaching of the Church. On Sunday we practice love of neighbor by spending time with our families, the first ‘neighbors’ God has put in our life, and by works of mercy in service those in need. What about rest? It is God who will give us true rest. If on Sundays we generously give ourselves to God, we will find that he restores our energies, giving us light and strength for the week. Contrariwise, very often when we first seek rest and relaxation, we find some physical and mental rest perhaps, but we often do so in a way that leaves us feeling empty inside. We do not return to our weekday activities with a renewed sense of purpose, but with a feeling of weariness, of being ‘burnt out’. When, however, we learn to put God first on Sundays, then we will learn how to find rest and relaxation that will truly restore our energies. The Quotable Pope Francis- "The fourth Commandment tells us even more. It does not speak of parents’ goodness; it does not ask that fathers and mothers be perfect. It speaks about an act of the child, apart from the merits of the parents, and says something extraordinary and liberating: even if not all parents are good and not every childhood serene, all children can be happy, because achieving a full and happy life depends on the proper recognition of those who have brought us into the world." Desde el Escritorio del párroco El Padre José – Recuerda santificar el día de reposo. Seis días puedes tra-bajar y hacer todo tu trabajo, pero el séptimo día es el sábado del Señor tu Dios. No se puede hacer ningún traba-jo ... En seis días el Señor hizo los cielos y la tierra, el mar y todo lo que hay en ellos; pero al séptimo día descansó. Por eso el Señor bendijo el día de reposo y lo santificó. (Ex 20: 8-11) Jesús fue acusado de violar el sábado, pero vino a cumplir la ley, no a abolirla. (cf. Mt 5, 17-19) La obra de curación que realizó en el día de reposo no fue 'su' trabajo, sino el trabajo de su Padre. Mi padre está en el trabajo hasta ahora, así que yo estoy en el trabajo. (Jn 5:17) Este 'trabajo' se hizo necesario porque la pureza de la creación origi-nal fue quebrantada por el pecado de Adán. Entonces Jesús cumplió perfectamente la ley de Moisés primero al completar la obra de redención en el sexto día, Viernes Santo, cuando dio su vida en la Cruz, diciendo: Está termi-nado. (Jn 19:30) Luego cumplió perfectamente el sábado descansando en la tumba el séptimo día, mientras su Ma-dre, la Virgen María, mantenía viva la luz de la fe, esperando el amanecer de la resurrección y la nueva creación. Ahora, el sábado no ha desaparecido, sino que se ha transformado en Cristo; se ha trasladado al primer día de la semana, el domingo, y se ha convertido en "el Día del Señor". Si tuviéramos que ser tan audaces como para reformular el mandamiento para reflejar la forma en que esta trans-formación en Cristo, diríamos algo como: “Recuerda santificar el Día del Señor porque es el comienzo de la nueva creación en Cristo. En ese día debes descansar en él para recibir de él una nueva vida, la vida de la gracia. Deja to-do lo que pienses, hagas o digas proceda de él y regrese a Dios el Padre a través de él. Comience la semana con este descanso en Cristo y luego complete la obra de los seis días restantes, viviendo de la vida de gracia que él le ha dado. Complete el trabajo de los días restantes de este mundo que pasa con su ojo siempre en el día de la res-urrección, el día del juicio, el día de los nuevos cielos y la tierra, cuando Dios hará nuevas todas las cosas "(cf. Rev 21 : 1, 5) La observancia del Día del Señor es un mandamiento de Dios especificado por un precepto de la Iglesia, el requisito de asistir a misa los domingos y los días santos. La Iglesia hace esta especificación en virtud de la autoridad que le otorgó el mismo Cristo: todo lo que ates en la tierra estará atado en el cielo. (Mt 16:19) Ahora, el primer requisito de los cristianos el domingo es asistir a misa. Esto es correcto y justo. Es correcto y solo porque la Misa nos lleva al corazón del Día del Señor. En la Misa recordamos y proclamamos la obra de la redención, la obra de la recreación, en Cristo, que fue provocada por la muerte y resurrección de Jesús. Aún más, ese trabajo se hace efectivo y operativo aquí y ahora. Cuando nos alimentamos con el sacrificio y el sac-ramento del Cuerpo y la Sangre de Cristo, la nueva creación comienza en nosotros. Al profesar la fe en Jesucristo y negar la necesidad de asistir a Misa el domingo, efectivamente declara que no necesitamos a la gente de Cristo, la Iglesia, y efectivamente niega la misma fe que profesamos al negarnos a ser recreados en él. Tenga en cuenta, además, que en el mandamiento original Dios le dijo a la gente, seis días puede trabajar y hacer su trabajo. Eso significa que el séptimo día se suponía que las personas dejaban de lado su propio trabajo, sus pro-pias necesidades y dedicaban el día a Dios, a la obra de Dios. A menudo podríamos esperar el domingo pensando: "Ahora es un día para mí hacer lo que quiero". Nuestro pen-samiento es al revés. El domingo es el día de la semana, sobre todo dedicado a la obra de Dios, a hacer su volun-tad. Su voluntad es que amemos a Dios sobre todas las cosas y amemos a nuestro prójimo como a nosotros mis-mos por amor a Dios. Desde el domingo, llevamos la voluntad de Dios al resto de la semana. En el domingo practicamos el amor de Dios asistiendo a misa, dando tiempo extra a la oración y estudiando la pala-bra de Dios y la enseñanza de la Iglesia. En el domingo practicamos el amor al prójimo al pasar tiempo con nuestras familias, los primeros 'vecinos' que Di-os ha puesto en nuestra vida, y mediante obras de misericordia al servicio de los necesitados. ¿Qué hay del descanso? Es Dios quien nos dará el verdadero descanso. Si los domingos nos entregamos gener-osamente a Dios, descubriremos que él restaura nuestras energías, dándonos luz y fuerza para la semana. Por el contrario, muy a menudo cuando buscamos descanso y relajación por primera vez, tal vez encontremos algo de descanso físico y mental, pero a menudo lo hacemos de una manera que nos hace sentir vacíos por dentro. No volvemos a nuestras actividades de los días de semana con un sentido renovado de propósito, sino con una sen-sación de cansancio, de estar "agotados". Sin embargo, cuando aprendemos a poner a Dios primero los domingos, aprenderemos cómo encontrar descanso y relajación que realmente restauren nuestras energías.
