Council progresses to next step on Adani infrastructure investment

Adani’s Carmichael Mine is one step closer to fruition with Isaac Regional Council adopting the mining compensation agreement at the Statutory Council meeting yesterday.

Mayor Anne Baker said Adani and Council have worked closely together to ensure a way forward and a positive outcome.

“Our joint focus is to responsibly deliver mutual and long-term economic benefits for the community.”

“This compensation agreement fundamentally provides Adani with access to Council roads and reserves integral to the project while maintaining public access.

Mayor Baker said Queensland’s mining sector has suffered with more than 20,000 jobs losses over the past two years.

“It’s essential our communities and our businesses benefit from the Carmichael project.”

“Both parties are committed to commencing negotiations on the next and important step, the infrastructure agreement.”

“Comprehensive maintenance agreements on existing infrastructure like road corridors are critical,” she said.

“The infrastructure agreement determines the extent of infrastructure works and maintenance over the life of the mine.”

Adani CEO Jeyakumar Janakaraj welcomed the prompt and positive conclusion to these negotiations.

“Working together with Isaac Regional Council, the project is moving one step closer to delivering long term benefits to Queensland, while helping deliver higher quality, lower emitting coal that will help alleviate energy poverty in India.”

Local passion drives women’s eventPassionate, enthusiastic and inspiring women will take the floor at Isaac Regional Council’s ‘A Woman’s Touch’ evening in Clermont.

Isaac Regional Council CEO Rod Ferguson said it’s a great opportunity for women to be inspired and celebrate local women and their achievements in business and life.

“We’re expecting around 100 women to attend the night out at Lotta Latte’s on Friday March 11.”

“Kicking off at 6.30pm, the evening features local guest speakers Katie Crews, Jo Knobel, Jess Hodge and Prue Lonergan with live entertainment by emerging artist Elianna Thompson.”

“Supporting our local businesses, each lady on the night will take home locally made produce from Knobel Honey – lip balm, honey jar and earrings by SK Creations.”

“There will also be vouchers up for grabs from Peteyoh Crea-tions.”

Tickets are available at Lotta Latte’s or on the night at the door for $25 per person including champagne on arrival and canapés.

“The great night out is one of many celebrations across Isaac as part of Queensland Women’s Week 7-13 March, 2016.

“Council is proud to be hosting or supporting these events to acknowledge the outstanding contribution women make to our communities, workplaces and lives.”

The theme for the inaugural week is ‘Good for her. Great for us. When women achieve, Queensland succeeds.’

“This theme celebrates women’s achievements and acknowledges that supporting and enabling women to take advantage of opportunities to succeed is good for everyone.”

International Women’s Day, held globally on 8 March each year, will be a highlight of Queensland Women’s Week.

On that day, Queensland women join millions of others throughout the world to celebrate the economic, political and social achievements of women in the past, present and future.

These events are supported through the Department of Communities, Child Safety and Disability Service’s Community Drought Support Package.

These funds are prioritised for programs and events which contribute to connectedness, social wellbeing and increase access to support services.

Jo Knobel of Knobel Honey will be guest speaker at the Clermont Women’s Week event from 6.30pm Friday, March 11 at Lotta Latte’s. Tickets available for pre-purchase from Lotta Latte’s.

Hello everybody just a short note this week.

No doubt the rumour mill is working overtime with the recent happenings around the fire in town and the death of a male person. It is not nice for anyone to discuss these matters and in the fullness of time when everything has gone through the proper processes then the real information, as much as possible, will be released into the public arena. In this regard I challenge everyone to stop any rumours in their tracks. There are people that are mourning in the area.

On other fronts pretty slow going. Incidents are occurring around Clermont and neighbouring areas and I ask all farmers to keep vigilant with all of their equipment, fuel and supplies as some raids have been conducted on properties netting thieves a lot of easily resold items.

Make sure any CCTV cameras are operational and padlocks are always done up, particularly on paddock gates. Some issues with missing cattle also around the area with a number of cattle also ending up being slaughtered. Make sure all your cattle are well branded and marked as your property.

Again keep on with your gun licenses and make sure you do not go past the expiry date. Same with drivers licenses, it is up to you to keep vigilant with keeping your licenses in check.

Another man caught at 7.20am for drink driving after having a big night out the previous evening. Remember the alcohol stays in your system for some time even if you have a sleep and some food. Be careful and if you think you are over, then don’t drive.

Speeders on the highway are still reducing in numbers particularly with less traffic. Highest speed during the week 140 km/h, late for work. This is a ridiculous excuse, do you think your boss would care if you were a little bit late or go this speed? I would submit that you would lose your job if that was the excuse to him or her.

Anyway that is about it for now.

Clermont Show the big winner in the latest round of community grantsOver $100,000 was awarded by Isaac Regional Council in the latest round of major community grants and donations.

Council CEO Rod Ferguson said the annual Clermont Show – The Isaac Region’s Show was one of the big winners.

“Council has thrown their support behind the region’s show with a significant sponsorship over the next three years,” he said.

“The Clermont Show has a rich history in the Isaac region and this year’s show day holiday is on May 25.”

Isaac’s sporting fraternity also received $35,000 in sponsorships.

“We have a thriving sporting culture, and Council is committed to ensuring we have a wide range of social and recreational programs in our communities,” said Mr Ferguson.

“The latest round of funding sees our largest sponsorship to date of the Clermont Gold Cup Campdraft, while the Moranbah Golf Club will receive sponsorship for the 2016 Moranbah Pro Am event in May.”

St Lawrence Sport Ground Committee is set to use its

significant grant to host the Cattleman’s Dinner during the upcoming St Lawrence Wetlands Discovery Weekend in April.

Council’s community grants are aimed at delivering broad community benefit to Isaac residents.

Other grants were awarded to:

• Clermont Community Business Group

• Clermont Rodeo Association
