Thank you everyone! It has been 12 months since we applied for a permit over the Clermont Railway Station to bring this much loved building back to life, but after much deliberation Pete and I have decided not to renew.

Whilst this was a ‘not for profit’ venture, the overheads of the station exceeded the return, and we have had to evaluate our personal cost. QLD Rail will take the station back as at the 1st May, and hopefully keep it in good repair for years to come.

From both Peter and myself we would like to thank everyone in the community who supported our idea and provided assistance, and we are very happy to see that our project provided an opportunity for a small business to test the waters. Please continue your support with the coffee shop relocating across from the station.

Thank you once again to everyone, if there is anyone interested in leasing the station I would be happy to provide contact details, or you can simply contact Qld Rail directly.

Isaac Regional Council delivered on their commitment to the long term future of the Isaac region by adopting Isaac 2035, Council’s Community Strategic Plan earlier this week (Tuesday April 28).

Isaac Mayor Anne Baker said Council has an unwavering commitment to securing a prosperous, sustainable and resilient future for their people.

“On behalf of Council and our communities, I am pleased to present this blueprint for the future.”

“Isaac 2035 outlines how we will work together towards enabling strong, vibrant, diverse and sustainable communities for our people over the next 20 years.”

“Achieving Isaac 2035’s visions will require a united effort and we invite you all to work with us towards bringing this vision to life.”

“Our vision for the region is aligned with strategies to ensure that our goals become reality,” Mayor Baker said.

Isaac 2035 aims to strengthen the region across four key areas, with actions in place to:

• improve essential infrastructure • diversify the economy• support communities • protect the natural environment

“As a local government serving the largest mining region in the state, Council is aware that unpredictable cyclic economic conditions impact our communities, businesses and industry.

“Although our communities continue to be stoic, vibrant and resilient, Council is committed to diversifying our region in order to promote long term growth, opportunity and prosperity.”

“Isaac 2035 highlights Council’s commitment to delivering a secure and sustainable future for our children and grandchildren.”

Isaac 2035 is available at www.isaac.qld.gov.au/council/publications-and policies

Anglican car boot sale

It’s that time of year again. Time to start cleaning out those cupboards again ready for the fourth Anglican Car Boot Sale to be held on Saturday June 13 at the Anglican Hall in Daintree Street.

The event will be similar to the previous Monster Car Boot Sale. Spaces will be available for a fee of $10 in the grounds of the Anglican Hall where you may set up a stall to sell your wares. This may be done from the boot of your car or from a table etc.

So if you• Have craft items you would like to

sell• Have excess produce or plants for

sale• You are planning a clean out but

don’t want to hold a garage sale• Have children’s gear or furniture

that you no longer need• Are a store owner with excess

stock

• Are an organisation that wants to raise money by selling something

• Or anyone else who has something to sell...

...this will be your opportunity!

A sausage sizzle will operate all morning and we will serve a delicious Devonshire Morning Tea. Come along for a browse and a social morning out.

Items donated to the Church will also be sold on the day inside the hall. If you have wares you would like to donate they will be gratefully received. Last time the range of goods was amazing and we are already assembling an interesting collection.

Remember “one man’s trash is another man’s treasure” and it’s a wonderful chance to clean out your cupboards.

For enquiries, ring 49831406.

With preparations well under way for the Clermont Show – The Isaac Region’s Show, one of the popular pre-show functions, is the 2015 Miss Showgirl announcement. Ladies looking for an enjoyable afternoon outing on Saturday 16th May need to book their tickets to the Fab Flirty Fifties High Tea by this Saturday 9th May. Tickets are available for $30 and can be purchased online at www.trybooking.com/HERL.

Sample some delectable high tea treats, boutique organic tea and enjoy a welcome drink on your arrival. With a ‘fabulous fifties’ theme and bar operating, the afternoon is one not to be missed by our local ladies. By broadening the knowledge and participation of young women in the show movement, the Showgirl Competition is also a great way for the girls to learn more about their community and their local show.

At this time, there have been no nominations received for this competition, so please consider nominating if you would enjoy this great opportunity. Perhaps you know someone who would be a perfect Showgirl entrant. Please encourage them to contact Ria for more information.

Show Committee Secretary and former participant Kate Flohr (Pickels) speaks passionately of her involvement in the Showgirl awards, “During my time as Clermont Miss Showgirl, I met so many wonderful people and had so many amazing experiences. My public speaking skills improved and I witnessed a whole other side to agricultural shows. It was a once in a lifetime experience that I will cherish forever. I would recommend any young woman to participate and grow through the Miss Showgirl Competition.”

Miss Showgirl Awards seek a young woman from the Isaac region who will represent the Clermont Show – The Isaac Region’s Show for the next 12 months. Her role is to promote the show to the youth of the Isaac community and encourage them to become involved. Miss Showgirl is selected for her presentation, knowledge and passion for the show movement, community and her state.

The Isaac competition has two sections: Junior for 15 to <18 year olds and Senior for 18 to < 28 year olds. Nominations close this Saturday May 9. Judging will take place in Clermont on Saturday morning May 16, with the winners announced at the Fab Flirty Fifties High Tea later in the afternoon. Entrants must be available for the Grand Parade on Wednesday May 27 and to assist with presentations and other pleasurable duties during the show from May 25 to 27. Winner of the senior section will represent the Isaac region at the Central Highlands finals at a Dinner in Clermont on Saturday June 20.

Organiser Marricka Clancy says, “Ladies, put on your flirty fifties outfit, bring a fabulous fifties feature for your table, gather a group of friends, book your tickets by Saturday and prepare yourself for a fantastic afternoon!”

For more High Tea information please contact Marricka 0429 027 828 or [email protected] or for the Showgirl competition, Ria 0408 964 300 or [email protected] or search for the Clermont Show on Facebook.

CLERMONT SHOW – THE ISAAC REGION’S SHOW MARKETS AND MARKETING TO MAXIMISE PROFITPlans for the Clermont Show, Cattlemen’s Challenge Field Day at Paringa Feedlot, Capella, are well under way. All beef producers wanting to learn more about maximizing their marketing opportunities, understanding the importance of feed efficiency and feeding are encouraged to attend the Field Day on Friday May 15, from 8.30am. Focusing on how to maximize profitability by better understanding marketing options, the day is certain to be of interest to all in the beef business planning to market cattle in a year when the summer wet season did not eventuate for the second successive year.

Competition steers have been at “Paringa” on a grain ration since early February. Inspection of the challenge cattle and assessment of their weight performances over the last three months will begin the day’s program. Vendors will select three steers to go to the show for judging and one steer to be evaluated on its carcase

quality and entered in the Taste Test Competition at the show on Tuesday May 26. After the steers have been selected, some of the vendors will explain the reasons why they have chosen their carcase steer: what they looked for in their selection; weight, teeth, conformation, fat depth or a combination of these specifications.

A tour of the feedlot by manager, Justin Dooley has been arranged. Although this is targeted towards the school groups who are attending the day, all field day participants are welcome to join in.

Cattlemen’s Challenge Secretary, Lauren Williams, DAF, Mackay has advised that guest speakers for the Q&A forum are Craig Price, Livestock General Manager at Kilcoy Pastoral Company and Ben Thomas, Market Analyst with MLA.

Topics for discussion include the importance of feed efficiency, feeding

options, how grain feeding fits into the beef market, understanding the requirement for 100 day grain feeding, end weight, MSA/chiller assessment, where beef /cattle are markets heading and opportunities in China.

The field day is being organized by the Clermont Show Beef Cattle Committee and hosted by the Philip and Deborah Reid, with BBQ lunch and refreshments provided through the generous support of Riverina Stockfeeds. Anyone interested in beef production is welcome to attend.

Health Matters

Getting the most out of your winter junior sportGiving your children the opportunity to play sport could be one of the best gifts you ever give them. Consider the benefits:

Health benefits• Develops a wide range of motor

skills e.g. balance, running, catching, jumping, throwing.

• Improves co-ordination, flexibility, strength and fitness.

• Develops healthy and active habits that will influence future lifestyles.

• Helps manage a healthy weight.

• Encourages healthy growth of developing bodies.

Social benefits• Improves confidence and self

esteem.

• Develops cooperation and teamwork.

• Opportunity to have fun and meet friends.

Personal benefits• Improves concentration skills and

ability to manage anxiety and stress.

• Increases capacity for learning and productivity.

• Develops values such as respect, fair play and personal excellence.

Children want to have fun, learn new things and be with their friends.

Children have a great sporting experience when parents, coaches and officials are positive and supportive.

Children want their parents to:• Support them and give them

encouragement.

• Be proud of them, no matter what.

• Understand their sport and be interested and involved.

• Come and watch them play.

• Be realistic about their abilities and skill level.

Children don’t want their parents to:• Embarrass them through abusing

coaches, officials or other children.

• Yell critical comments during or after the game.

• Pressure them to set goals or achievements.

Strategies for game dayBefore the game• Encourage your children to have a

go, do their best and have fun!

• Tell them that you are proud of them, no matter what the outcome.

• Remind them to treat every person like they would like to be treated.

• During the game

• Cheer for your children and recognise good play – even if its another team member or an opponent. There are other parents watching the game too and they will appreciate your good sportsmanship.

• Keep it positive, don’t criticise or give instructions from the sidelines.

• Respect the decision-making of the coaches and officials.

After the gameCongratulate your children, their team and coach.

Everyday strategies for parents• Get the family involved. Your

children will love it if you could all get active and healthy together. Perhaps you could join an open sports team or be an assistant coach, official or run the canteen.

• Be proud of your children, especially when they have a go at something new, or make a mistake but have the courage to try it again.

• Balance your enthusiasm. It’s great to cheer and be excited but check with your children just in case they find it a little too much.

• Revisit your club ‘Parents Code of Ethics’ to see what values the club has about parent support. If your club doesn’t have one, why not encourage them to implement one? Visit True Sport Lives Here website at www.sportrec.qld.gov. au for an example.

• Practice with your children at home, watch games with them on television or take them to a state or national level game.

• Listen to your children. Make sure they know you support them in their sporting pursuits and are interested in their goals, aspirations and challenges. Ask them if they would like to try other sports or activities.

• Leave the coaching to the coach. If you are really keen, perhaps speak to the club and see how you can get training or become a volunteer.

• Watch a game… or two… or all!

• Your children will love to have you on the sidelines cheering for them – no matter what the score! Other parents and children are watching and learning from your behaviour.

• Remember that children want to have fun. Ask them if they had fun before asking them if they won.

• Come along to training sessions and cheer. You can use this opportunity to talk to the coach and see how you can support.

And remember…. Protect, Prevent, Live Well

This form of exercise uses power and cardio, keeping the heart rate high and metabolizing fat at the same time. Open GymThis is your opportunity to use the Gym facilities, there will be a basic weights program and WOD on offer for your utilisation, or you could just be creative and do your own training.Lets LiftThis program has been designed to target the eight large muscle groups in a 45 minute whole body workout.
