Waar gaan ek met my kinders heen?

Luke Hobosch: Ek dink as mense belasting betaalmoet hulle huise kry. Dit maak nie saak hoe oudjy is nie.

Thando Mafuna: Ek stem glad nie saam nie.

Bazuka Soji: In my opinie, dink ek dis minderbevoor-regte mense word net meer afgedruk. FOTO’S: TAMSYN JANTJIES

How to keep thosepesky pests at bayIt’s summer againand that means braa-is and lazy days. Butit is also time whenall those unwantedpests like flies andmosquitoes maketheir appearance. Here are a few tipsthat could help keepthese flying fiends ata bay.

) Citronella – Thisworks on both flies andmosquitoes.Youcanei-ther burn a citronellacandle or you can dabsome of the oil on yourexposed skin.

) Cloves – Flies donot like the smell ofcloves. You can keep 10– 15 cloves in a saucernear to where you areserving food. Alterna-tively, use clove oil tokeep them at bay.

) Herbs – Flies in-stinctively stay awayfrom certain herbs inyour garden. These in-clude elder, basil andmint. It is also a goodidea to plant theses in little pots and placethem around the house.

) Lavender oil – this is also has a dualuse for both flies and mosquitoes. Dabsome on your skin or on your bedding and

tablecloths.) Vodka – Yes

that’s right. Forsome unknown rea-son flies do not likethe smell of vodka. You can make Vod-ka bags and hangthem around yourentertainment areaor alternatively rubsome on your ex-posed skin, if youare comfortable do-ing that.

) Vinegar:Though this doesn’tsmell very nice, itworks. Pour a littleinto a saucer andplace it next to yourbed and it will wardoff all those greedymosquitoes. How to make

your own fly trap:You will need awide-mouthedglass jar, papercone and sugar wa-ter. Pour the sugarwater into the jar.

Cut 1 cm off the top of the paper coneand place it in the glass jar but don’t letit touch the water. The flies will be attracted to the sweet

scent and fly into the hole but they willnot be able to fly out again.

Make your own fly trap for your home.

Load shedding to hitCape Town this weekEskom has published a notice onits website, stating that loadshedding is planned nationallythis week.Eskom spokesperson Andrew

Etzinger said in a TV news inter-viewonSunday, that the countrywill see a “serious situation forthe next few days”.The cause is apparently a

cracked silo which collapsed andaffects coal supplies to all sixunits of the Majuba power sta-tion, one of Eskom’s largest coal-firedstations.Planneddowntimefor individualmunicipalitiescanbe found at www.eskom.co.za byclicking on the load-sheddinglink at the top of the website.Stage 1 load shedding allows

for up to 1 000 MWof the nationalload to be shed. Stage 2 allows forup to 2 000 MW of the nationalload to be shed. Stage 3 allows forup to 4 000 MW of the nationalload to be shed.Load shedding will be imple-

mented inmost instances in two-

hour blocks (with an additional30minutes forswitchingbetweenblocks). Those affected maytherefore be without electricityfor 2,5 hours at a time.

) The Eskom alert, releasedover the weekend, reads:“Thepowersystemisprojected

to be severely constrained thisweek due to the loss of 1 800 MWattheMajubapowerstation,asit-uation caused by damage to thecentral coal storage silo. A silo, which houses over 10 000 tons ofcoal, cracked on Saturday andcollapsed on Sunday, impactingcoal supplies toall sixunits at thepower station and resulting inthe power station operating at re-duced capacity of 1 300 MW.No injuries were reported.Teamsareonsiteandare in the

process of dispatching mobilecoal feeders to site.In the unlikely event that this

contingency is unsuccessful, itmay impact the full supply fromthe power station.”
