PAUL ROOS SE 150-GEESVIERINGE “150 SHADES OF GREY” ’N SUBJEKTIEWE OORSIG
Die Grey-naweek van 2015 gaan beslis in Paul Roos Gimnasium se geskiedenisboeke opgeteken word as een van die bestes ooit – nie net weens al die oorwinnings nie, maar ook danksy die algehele gees wat deur die skool geheers het. Hierdie gees kom darem ook nie sommer vanself nie. Me. Renette Stofberg en die span cheerleaders het hard gewerk om die naweek ’n opwindende en geslaagde een te maak. Om 50 jaar se oudkapteins op te spoor is geen geringe prestasie nie! Die skool se nuwe PRG Legends-vlag, wat almal in die skool se handtekeninge bevat, sal in die argief geplaas word.
Johan Schoeman en Renier Hattingh (Graad 10) Henk Neethling (Graad 12)Semper Splendidior. Altyd beter, altyd meer uitnemend. Indien so, hoekom dan ’n jare lange wendroogte teen Grey Bloemfontein? Dit is ’n kwelvraag wat by etlike Paul Roosers oor die gang van hulle skoolloopbaan opduik. Maar die Maroen Masjien was die Saterdag van 22 Augustus vanjaar in ’n rat hoër as ooit tevore, wat waarskynlik deur die ongelooflike optog en sielvolle singery aan die gang gesit is. Die Silwer Valke was net-net vinniger as die Maroen Masjien, met die verskil dat dit Grey was wat, soos die skouspelagtige vliegtuie, gerook het van uitputting na ’n aggressiewe aanslag van elke PRG-spanlid. Paul Roos se vertoning was van so aard dat ’n mens niemand kan uitsonder nie. Nico Leonard het wel sy 51ste drie van die seisoen gedruk – ’n PRG-rekord – en Grey is onkant gevang deur Joss van Eeden se slim breekslag, maar die grondslag daarvoor is deur die besonderse werketiek van veral die taai voorspelers gelê. Niemand het ’n voet verkeerd gesit nie, en selfs al hét hulle foute began, het hulle in die volgende beweging daarvoor vergoed. Die rustydtelling van 12-7 in die Maroen Masjien se guns is byna onmiddellik in die tweede helfte met ’n venynige aanval voortgesit. Daar is op Grey se doellyn gehamer, totdat Damian Willemse weer eens verdedigers met flink voetwerk na die lug laat gryp het
onderweg na sy deurslaggewende drie. Die res, soos hulle sê, is geskiedenis. Met beide superspanne wat `n paar kanse verbrou het, is die eindtelling van 19-12 moontlik die beste weerspieëling van dié wonderlike wedstryd. Dit kon gesê word van die hele naweek, waar elke Paul Rooser `n besonderse bydrae gelewer het tot die skool se 150ste bestaansjaar. Hierdie droomdag op die magtige Markötter sluit die seisoen suikersoet af. `n Volledige (en meer objektiewe!) verslag van die titaniese stryd sal eersdaags verskyn ...Om al die
oudkapteins, oud-drumliners en -cheerleaders op te spoor was nie ’n maklike taak nie.
Die maroen skare moedig hulle manne aan.
Eerstespankaptein en onderhoofseun Joa Swart se pa, wat in 1986 nie net die eerste span op die veld gelei het nie, maar óók in daardie jaar onderhoofseun was, stap saam met die ander oudkapteins op die veld.

SEARED OSTRICH FILLET WITH BLACKCURRANT SAUCE - Serves 4Ostrich is low in fat, healthy and tasty – just don’t overcook it. INGREDIENTS:• Splash of olive oil• 4 ostrich fillet steaks• Salt and freshly ground black pepper• 1 cloves garlic, crushed• 1 tsp finely chopped fresh ginger,• 1 red chilli, sliced (optional)• ½ cup dry red wine• 2 Tbsp. blackcurrant jam• 4 tbls Wellington’s Steakhouse Sauce
• 4 spring onions with tops, roughly chopped METHOD:Season steaks with salt and pepper.
Heat the olive oil to high heat in heavy-based frying pan.Sear ostrich fillets in batches for 1 minute per side, and set aside.To the same pan add a drop more olive oil and gently fry ginger, garlic and chillies, stirring for 1 minute. Add the wine, blackcurrant jam
and Wellingtons. Steakhouse Sauce, and simmer until slightly reduced.Return the fillets and spring onions to the sauce. Gently heat through – don’t overcook.Serve on a pile crushed potatoes with steamed greens.

CRAVENWEEKQuinn Visser het in die Junievakansie vir WP o/13 verteenwoordig by die Cravenweek, waar hy op dag 1 die speler van die wedstryd was. Die WP-span wen ook die toernooi.
BLOEMHOF SE NUWE LEIERS Baie geluk aan al Bloemhof se nuwe leiers wat op 17 Augustus aangekondig en ingehuldig is! Alize van Vuuren(links) is die nuwe termyn se hoofdogter en Jana Heyns (regs) is die nuwe onderhoofdogter. Alize is ook die onderhoofdogter van die Koshuis terwyl Néecke Gee aan die hoof staan.
DIE STREEKS-EKSPO Bloemhof het 26 projekte vir die Streeks-ekspo ingeskryf, wat op 28 Augustus by Rhenish plaasgevind het. Uit die 26 projekte behaal ons 24 medaljes, waarvan vier brons, twaalf silwer en agt goud. Sewe projekte word ook aangewys as die beste projekte in hul verskeie kategorieë en Marianne Strauss word gekies as een van die 15 leerders wat later vanjaar die streek by die Nasionale Kompetisie in Gauteng gaan verteenwoordig.

Die HMS Bloemhof se Accelerando koor is Vrydagaand 4 September by ‘n glansgeleentheid in die Endlersaal aangewys as die wenners van die Tygerberg Eisteddfod se afdeling vir Hoërskoolkore. Die koor, onder leiding van Marijke de Villiers Roos, het ‘n verstommende 95% in hul kategorie verwerf.

Once again the cycling teams from Parel Vallei did not disappoint! On Saturday, the cyclists pictured here participated in the last round of the Spur High School League at Paul Roos in Stellenbosch.All of their hard work paid off and they are proud to have won the trophy for the best mixed team in the Western Cape! These Parel Valleiers came 2nd in the boys’ category and 1st in the girls’ category. Well done to all the cyclists that gave their all. The PV “Blue Thread” that links us all was clearly visible in the pride and passion shown by the cyclist.

JOHAN ANKER ONTVANG ‘N SPRINGBOK-TOEKENNING!By die afgelope Hoofbestuursvergadering van die Landsdiensbeweging is ‘n Springbok-toekenning (wat deur Streekbestuur aanbeveel is) toegeken aan Johan Anker – dit is ‘n besondere prestasie en eer. Johan (wat die rol van Thomas in Kyknet se televisiereeks Thomas@ gespeel het wat in 2013 uitgesaai is) het ook vroeër vanjaar deelgeneem aan die Bellville Toneelspel-kompetisie en onder die laaste 16 leerders landswyd geëindig. Hy neem jaarliks deel aan verskeie toneelkompetisies (o.a. die ATKV-toneelkompetisie) en het al meer as tien indiwiduele toekennings (goud, silwer en brons) vir sy spel ontvang.
NATIONAL TEACHERS AWARDS – KEYNOTE SPEAKERAzemahle Dyubeni (Grade 12) was selected as the Keynote Speaker for the National Teachers Awards: Cape Winelands District.

1985 MATRIEKS Bernard Geldenhuys, Gresse Geldenhuys, Nici King (nèe Hindle), Carina Roux, Denise Stanley (Veater), Debbie Spencer (nèe Krige), Peter Davies, Magna van Schalkwyk (nèe Roux), Louis van Leeuwen, Zelda Rose (nèe Horn) en Rochelle Human (nèe Moore) sing die skoollied van die Hoërskool Hottentots-Holland uit volle bors tydens hul 30ste skoolreünie. Die 1985 Matrieks het onlangs hul reünie by HHH bygewoon. Louis van Leeuwen het spesiaal vanaf Nederland gereis om die reünie by te woon.
