Mission Statement “We are a welcoming spiritual home that provides community and personal growth through liturgy, evangelization, the Word of God and a call to His service.” June 20, 2021 Twelfth Sunday in Ordinary Time St. Raphael Catholic Church 18440 Cadillac Hwy · Copemish, MI 49625 straphaelcopemish.com Mailing address: PO Box 150, Onekama, MI 49675 Email: [email protected] Phone: 231.889.4254 · Fax: 231.889.3706 St. Joseph Catholic Church 8380 Fifth St · Onekama, MI 49675 stjosephonekama.com “Let us cross to the other side.” Dear Friends in Christ, Happy Father's Day! This is the Twelfth Sunday in Ordinary Time. We are celebrating Father's day! This is a day of honoring fatherhood and paternal bonds and the influence of Fathers in society. As Catholic people, we put our attention to our Father in heaven and the beautiful examples that our Church has given us during our history. Years ago, we celebrated this feast on Saint Joseph's day because we see how Saint Joseph took care of the holy family in a wonderful way. In our first reading, we read nothing of God's direct role in comforting, speaking to, or sustaining Job during his crisis. Over that time, Job has ached repeatedly for a word from God. This book gave us an idea of who God is and how He cares for His people. Saint Paul in 2 Corinthians responded to more critical questions of this community. In this small passage that we heard, Saint Paul tells us that we need to be confident in all circumstances because "the love of Christ impels us." It is beautiful to remember that the love of God encompasses everything in reality. The apostle in this letter talked about "how Jesus died for all so that those who live might no longer live for themselves but for him who for their sake died and was raised." We can gain some insight on this question by taking a look at his question by feeling our powerful sense of union with God or a sense of being at home with the Lord. In fact, Saint Paul's phrase, "So whoever is in Christ is a new creation," gave us great confidence! When we were baptized, we become a new creation, and together as a Church community, we see all "things new the old things have passed away," not passive. We are on a journey. Paul's phrase reminds us that God walks with us. God gives us the strength to endure the trials and tribulations we encounter so that we can continue on the journey wherever it may take us. In our Gospel, we heard that Jesus said to his disciples: "Let us cross to the other side." When I read this Gospel, this phrase made me feel the invitation of our Lord to move to the other side in everything that becomes an obstacle in my relationship with God. Sometimes in our faith journey, we feel that he is sleeping and not paying attention to the problematic situations that we are going through, but then we become aware that He is always close. He has the power to change any situation, our confidence changed, and our faith increased in a loving God that is always ready to help us. My invitation this week is to remember that as we go through any kind of storm we can learn from these situations. God is teaching us something about Himself, about you, and about the storms of life. Let us see the storms of life as an opportunity for God to display who He is. — Fr. Rubén Darío Muñoz Jiménez

2021 Catholic Services Appeal (CSA)

Thank you to everyone who responded so generously to the annual Catholic Services Appeal. Each year the success of this appeal depends on you. Your support is greatly appreciated in both our parishes and the diocesan church. It is when we grow as a community of believers that we help to assure that those who provide services throughout Northern Michigan will be able to continue Christ’s work here in the Diocese of Gaylord.
