MISSING DOGS: FYI: If you know the owners of a white Boxer dog and a black Lab. Please ask them to email this Hotline Column. Proud has received notification from a resident that these 2 dogs were seen together in the vicinity of QV East Drive & intersections of Clearbrook & Hilton Head the morning of October 23rd (Wednesday).

CYPRESS POINT ENTRANCE @ Cartwright: The QV FUND HOA is looking into this concern, by a QV resident, about not enough flower/plant updates.

CITY CENTRE @ Quail Valley: QV Garden Club continues with a landscaping project at City Centre, which began in February 2013. “City Centre is a beautiful facility that gives the people of Missouri City PRIDE! “We

wanted the landscaping to reflect the architectural beauty of the building.” (Courtesy of the QV Garden Club.)

BROKEN RECORD: This sounds like a broken record BUT it cannot be stressed enough. PLEASE do not leave any items visible in your car/truck when you exit the vehicle. If your items can be seen while passing your vehicle, you become a possible target.

DON’T BE PARANOID—BE CAUTIOUS! Always assume that you are being watched. If you place your phone/purse/computer in your trunk before you enter a park/game/fitness center, etc. you are telling “them” that you have valuable items in your unattended vehicle.

WHAT THEY USUALLY WANT? They typically

are not interested in a trunk full of groceries. They want your cash, your check book, your credit cards, your lap top, your cell phone.

POOR CELLULAR RECEPTION: The only way to improve this is to have a cell tower. Residents say, okay with me, AS LONG AS IT IS NOT IN MY “NEIGHBORHOOD”. That is not possible, so I guess we all just continue to endure the poor reception?

The battle for our borders comes home. Last Saturday morning Fort Bend residents awoke to learn that a Stafford police officer had been shot, twice, in the line of duty. She was doing her job and keeping the citizens safe while they slept when she was ambushed by a carload of purported illegals with alleged drug and gang ties.

This evil lurking at the gates of our country and county has tentacles that are entwined with drug cartels and gangs that have been marching north up the South American continent for the last 30 years. As the Beltway Boys pontificate; we here along the southern border of the United States could use a little help…UNITING…. our border that is.

There are many facets to border security; as a country we have been remiss, as a people we have turned a blind eye. The United States was founded on freedoms, principals, and opportunity by welcoming the Huddled Masses. The problem we seem to be facing now is how to afford those Huddled Masses. Entitlements are way too high and the working population is steadily shrinking. No, not because of slackers but because of lower birth rates and the onset of family planning some 45 years ago, thus the ratio of worker to retiree is drowning us. We need workers paying into the system ... legal ones.

Interestingly, David Dewhurst is calling on the federal government to pay back Texas for housing illegal immigrants that are in the justice system. That has been a plight for border

states for years. Citizen or not, if someone commits a crime, they are headed to the local hoosegow. That costs money, food, the latest in orange jumpsuits, electricity, and new facilities to house the perpetrators just to name a few which all equals to millions more per year. Want to add that cost to your property tax?

The pitfalls of immigration legislation are as long and deep as the tentacles of the drug cartels. Immigration to the United States is a business. To begin with, it employs thousands of bureaucrats, support services for those bureaucrats, enforcers, lawyers, judges, prosecutors, then there are the lawyers for the immigrant, Social Services for

immigrates and families, schools, medical attention the list goes on forever. But realistically, how can this problem be fixed if the Beltway Boys can’t even keep the government running?

Beltway Boys poking at each other and not taking care of business and getting productive legislation passed, like immigration reform, could have very likely robbed a family of their mother, the city of Stafford, and Fort Bend County of a hardworking, tough police officer. If only the Beltway Boys had the kind of tenacity and commitment that Officer Ann Carrizales exemplified last weekend we could all stand proud. Heck, maybe she can get the borders under control.

Judge Vincent Morales?

There’s a telephone survey taking place in Fort Bend test-ing the waters on the “like-ability” of Rosenberg Mayor Vincent Morales for a run for the county judgeship in the upcoming primaries in March. Filing would have to take place by the end of December. Mayor Morales would be opposing incumbent Fort Bend County Judge Bob Hebert,

should the Judge decide to run for reelection. A Fort Bend resident was called this week from a 503 area code number and she thought maybe she had been selected as a contestant on the Wheel of Fortune, since she had requested to be in the show. She said she answered the call excitedly and even though it did not turn out to be the case, she says she was still excited about what she heard. Feedback about both Mayor Morales and Judge Hebert was sought in relation to “if the election were held today,” etc., etc. Not yet confirmed with Mayor Morales, we hear from reliable sources that this is in the making. Heads up - you may be one of the 30,000 called!

Protection Against the Flu is EssentialInfluenza, commonly known as “the flu”, is a viral infection that

pre dominantly affects our respiratory system. An infected person may ini tially think they have “a cold” because the symptoms of a runny nose and sneezing. However, a person infected with the flu will additionally experience a high fever (usually over 100 degrees F), muscle aches in the arms, legs, and back, chills, severe weakness, headache, and nasal con gestion. The flu virus travels through the air in the form of droplets that can easily spread to another person. The influenza virus changes con tinuously. This is why building immunity in your body against the flu either by previously having the infection or through vaccination may help prevent future infections.

For most flu infections, the best remedy is bed rest and lots of fluids to prevent dehydration. A physician may prescribe antiviral medications to help prevent serious complications. Oseltamivir (Tamiflu) is an pre scription drug that may be in the form of a capsule or a liquid suspension. It stops the virus from releasing more virus particles. Tamiflu may be taken to help manage and/or prevent the flu. Zanamivir (Relenza) is an antiviral medication used to treat and prevent the flu, as well. It should be avoided in people who experience respiratory problems such as asthma.

For the past 14 years, Carin Williamson, a teacher at SMSD has chaperoned 8th grade students that meet the grade and conduct criteria to Washington D.C. and New York City to learn about history and government. In a district where more than 65% students are economically challenged, this is not an easy undertaking for many families. Last year, due to the generosity of several

Stafford businesses, Rockford Management (The Resort Townhomes and Windfield Townhomes) and Industrial Ventilation Systems, enough money was donated so that two scholarships were available. This year, SMSD is asking once again for community businesses to lend a helping hand.

Arthur and Margie Kohn and Christian and Janet Strickland, on behalf of Industrial Ventilation Systems, had this to say about giving.

Stafford businesses make a difference in students lives"What interested us was that the donation made an instant impact on the student's lives. With many charitable donations it's not always clear how your money has made a difference in someone's life. But with this it was very clear." In order to apply for the scholarships, students must write an essay. Margie Kohn had the opportunity to read these papers. "The writing brought me to tears a few times because these students were dealing with so much in their lives, but yet still had a goal and ambition to see more and do more for themselves and others. These student's are our future and the businesses of Stafford have the means to help the students' reach their goals."

SMSD Board of Trustees President, Ed Castillo said, “Business support of student programs, such as providing scholarships for 8thgraders to travel to Washington D.C., is a

foundation of SMSD providing high-quality education. SMSD is appreciative of businesses that have supported our programs in the past and eager to continue those relationships. We encourage all Stafford and Fort Bend County businesses and organizations to become involved with our students and schools. Contributing scholarships sends a powerful message to our students that they are important and their community cares. Involvement in our student programs and schools through scholarships, teacher grants, and providing volunteers ensures our business community has voice in the education of their future workforce. Great schools do not happen without the involvement of all stakeholders – students, parents, educators and community. SMSD is eager to engage additional business support to benefit programs that prepare our students for college and careers.”

That was an out and out lie when he said it five years ago and it has been a lie while he has been say-ing it for the past three years after

Obamacare was past... and he knew it was a lie.

Millions and millions of happy policyholders are being notified that their “low-cost” policy they have been perfect-ly happy with does not meet the minimum standards that Obamacare says every health-care policy must include. That would include making their policy include maternity cover-age for 50-year-old men and women.

As many as 11 million people will not be allowed to keep their plan because of Obamacare. This healthcare act was designed

to cancel low cost policies that, after including unwanted cover-age’s, would force individuals to pay MUCH more for a new policy. This diabolical president wants all these millions and mil-lions of people to be forced to look to the so-called healthcare exchanges and shop for their healthcare coverage there.

Originally any and all indi-vidual healthcare policies were suppose to be grandfathered even if they did not meet the minimum standard. Then the 10,000+ pages of regulations were written after the law was passed which made it almost impossible to grandfather a 2010 policy. Some insurance policy experts predict that 50% to 75% of individual healthcare policies will be cancelled due to Obamacare.

When these people go to the government sponsored health-care exchanges they will pay up to four times the healthcare pre-mium that they were previously

I'm Sick and Tired...

Michael Fredrickson

paying for a policy with similar coverage. Low-income individ-uals will get a huge subsidy to make their policy ‘the cost of a cell phone bill’ according to the president.

Prior to Obamacare didn’t these people just sign up for Medicare? If they accidently ingested poison or cut their fin-ger off they went to a hospi-

tal emergency room and were not sent into bankruptcy, which has been the drum beat of the Obama regime.

Media outlets and this extremist president told us repeatedly that there were 30 million uninsured citizens. Did anyone ever ask them if they wanted healthcare insur-ance? I think not. Millions of

...of the president lying to the American people, repeatedly saying ‘If you like your

(healthcare) policy you can keep it’

these “uninsured people” were healthy individuals that do not want a health policy that they think they would not use. If they had opted out of an employer-sponsored plan, it was probably because they didn’t think they needed it so why should they pay the employee portion.

These young, healthy people are the ones the liberal Obama regime targeted with a fine (now, magically transformed into a tax by the Supreme Court) if they didn’t sign up on a government exchange or get on their employer’s plan. Well, the first year’s fine was only $95. So, for less than $8 per month they can agree to be fined or pay the employee portion or the “subsidized” premium on bronze, silver or gold policy on a government exchange. If all this sounds convoluted and confusing to you, what do you think it sounds like to a 25-year-old, low-information voter?.

Dekkers Mesquite Grill8506 Syms St.

Fulshear, TX 77441Cuisine: Grilled and

fried chicken, beef, pork, and seafood dishes

This is the best-kept secret among the locals in Fulshear. It’s a fairly new place with classic Texas hill country architect and a large deck out front, where people can enjoy live entertainment on the weekends. Indoor dining was available also.

Typical offerings were soups, stuffed crab, seafood gumbo, various flatbreads, quail eggs, salads, burgers and other warm sandwiches, chicken fried steak, pork chops, rib eye, chicken and pasta, grilled and fried seafood, typical sides and desserts.

The chicken fried steak was huge, served over a

bed of mashed potatoes. The fried catfish, grilled shrimp, and gumbo were all excellent and well seasoned. Homemade rolls were available for an extra charge and were quite worth it! Everything ordered was fresh, hot, well seasoned and very generously portioned.

The service was outstanding. The waiter went the extra mile to make sure we were happy and satisfied.

The entertainment that night was a guitarist playing and singing old classics. The weather was nice, the food great, the entertainment pleasant, and the service outstanding; a fun and very satisfying experience.

The section is also about the unlawful use of an internal mail system for the distribution of political advertising.

In the same complaint, Miller states that the city produced materials for the upcoming bond election with a newly created large parks logo with the words PARKS, FOR A PROUD SUGAR LAND, WHERE QUALITY OF LIFE COUNTS. “Clearly the message to voters is you should vote if you are a proud resident,” she maintains in the complaint. The ballistic vest worn by Carrizales saved her life by deflecting the bullet to her chest but she still suffered concussion injuries from the blast as well as a gunshot wound to the face where a 40 cal. bullet tore into her cheek and out the side of her head.

Undaunted and even more determined, Carrizales returned fire at the fleeing vehicle, got back into her patrol car and along with a multiple agency fleet of police officers, pursued her shooters into north Houston near the Greenspoint area. The pursuit came to an end for Carrizales at Greenfork Drive when she had to be transported to Memorial Hermann Hospital in Houston for treatment for her gunshot wounds.

As Carrizales was transported to the hospital, officers from Missouri City, Sugar Land, Houston, and DPS established a perimeter and arrested the shooter Sergio Rodriguez.

Direct mail publications and a press release about a citizen’s bond committee having recommended the parks projects two months before the committee was selected are included in Miller’s alleged violations.

The city previously reported that a bond committee of more than 100 residents met from March to May to prioritize proposed projects, consider phasing opportunities and make funding recommendations.

In substantiation of Miller’s claim is a list of seven documents including flyers for the bond election and a town hall meeting. This Wednesday, Oct. 30, 6:30 – 8 p.m., a public presentation on Sugar Land's $50 million parks bond election, an overview of the parks and trails for voter consideration, is scheduled at Sugar Land City Hall. A question

and answer session will follow the presentation, according to the announcement.

The bond election is set to take place this upcoming Tuesday, Nov. 5, and whether the Texas Ethics Commission may have contacted the city by then or begun or ruled on an investigation remains to be seen. In her statements to the media, Miller said that the ethics complaint was filed against City Manager Allen Bogard intending on also “filing a complaint against each of the City Council Members and Mayor in regards to this campaign.”

City spokesperson Adolph says, “The materials developed by the City of Sugar Land were designed to inform and educate potential voters of the choices they are being asked to make regarding the funding of three projects totaling $50 million.”

At press time there remained an active warrant out for Henriquez. All three men are believed to have ties to organized criminal gangs.

Mayor Jessup made his assurances that Meadows Place would not be taking away homesteads, and that any action on a homeowner would need to go before council first.

This wasn't a public hearing,

however, in Meadows Place, members of the audience can speak on agenda items for up to three minutes. During this part, the temperature in the room increased a few degrees as people gave their thoughts on both sides of the matter. Past Alderman John Whiteman stated that he was in favor of tabling the ordinance for one month. Shirley Isbell wanted to "protect citizens that live here,

not owners that do not." The motion to table the ordinance did not pass. The vote to pass the ordinance was tied 2 to 2 (one alderman was not present), giving the Mayor the deciding vote.

Ordinance 2013-25 passed. Mayor Jessup said, "In one year you will see a difference in Meadows Place, and in three years, there will be no abandoned homes."

"As a mom of three and as someone who grew up going to the Children's Museum, the opportunity to have a tool to encourage hands-

on learning in our own backyard is invaluable", said Leaman.

Top-level naming opportunities remain in its meeting rooms at $100,000 each as well as naming rights for the TotSpot exhibit for $300,000 and the Kidtropolis exhibit for $400,000. In addition, several columns in the museum’s main entry are available for sponsors. Families can also purchase tiles for a permanent display in the museum and there are also opportunities for grandparents to get involved with the Grandparent Wall of Fame.

Dumb, Dumber, and DumbestDUMB, continued from page 1

morning… Ha! just wait till she feels better!

Yep, while on routine patrol, something just didn’t seem right when a Stafford officer saw a car stopped in an intersection, lurking. Well, she walked up to the car

…. not even a how do you do or anything else, the passenger just blasts her! Yep, 2 shots, a double tap, one to the chest and the other …as she dodged, it caught her left cheek.

Picking herself up from the concussion, she gave chase. Honey, she was like butta on hot bread….

right up in there, all over their buns!Imagine if she had not been

injured, it was like Sherman through Georgia as it was. Yes sirreeee, shot twice, she got back in that po-po car and chased the gang bang’n punks across Houston up to a Guns point area apartment complex, where she finally gave in to medical attention and the rest of the posse to get the shooter! Now this woman is an

example of your tax dollars at work! A former Marine, a momma, and a city po-po…yep, a suburban full of women like her… with the promise of an adult beverage and a little shopping at the end of the mission.

Well, suffice to say the US Border would be cleared!

And Dumb, Dumber and Dumbest….maybe they’d blast them back to their mutha-land.

FOOT FACTSby Dr. Eric Tepper

BOARD CERTIFIED PODIATRIST, ACCPPS

The bones of the foot can be broken as a result of falls, overuse, direct blows, and numerous other types of injuries. Breaks can be quite painful. The foot may swell and feel tender, inhibiting the ability to put any pressure on it. Initially, the RICE approach (Rest, Ice, Compression, and Elevation) may help. X-rays of the foot may be necessary to determine if there are, in fact, fractures. Most of the bones in the foot will heal in time if proper rest is observed. However, some breaks require the foot to be placed in a cast. More complicated situations may require surgery. Contact your podiatrist immediately if you suspect that you have broken a bone in your foot.

Your podiatrist will provide instructions for care following surgical or non-surgical treatment when you have broken a bone. Physical therapy, exercises and rehabilitation may well be included in a schedule for return to normal activities. You’ll receive the highest quality medical care coupled with the personal attention you expect and deserve. We offer comprehensive foot care. Our approach is conservative, gentle, and caring at 3143 Hwy. 6 South. We welcome your call for family foot care at 281-980-3668. Don't take your feet for granted - call us for an appointment. Make your next step a comfortable one - call us for an appointment.

HINT: A broken bone that includes a break in the skin must be treated immediately to avoid infection.

The Sugar Land Police are looking for the man who robbed a gaming store in a horizontal striped shirt.

Monday evening as the GameStop at 403 State Highway 6S was closing, a masked man approached an employee who was outside washing windows and forced him back into the store.

As the masked man huddled the three employees together

he threatened them with a pistol demanding cash from the register and the safe. The masked robber fled the scene of the robbery with multiple game consoles and an unspecified amount of cash. Doug Adolph spokesman for Sugar Land police department said no physical injuries were reported.

The suspect was described as a thin black man, about 5’ 6” to 5’10” and weighing about 120 pounds. He was wearing a gray and black horizontal

Robber’s stripes going in wrong direction

striped hoodie, baggy black pants and white shoes.

Anyone with information should call the Sugar Land Police Department at (281) 275-2540 or Fort Bend County Crime Stoppers at (281) 342-TIPS (8477).

Selective Service is looking for two to three members of the community who are willing to serve on the board for Fort Bend County. These volunteers serve an important role closely connected with our nation's defense.

If a military draft becomes necessary, the Selective Service local board, a group of five citizens, will decide who among the registrants in their community will receive deferments, postponements, or exemptions from military service based on the individual registrant's circumstances and beliefs.

Board members undergo an initial 8-hour training session and then participate in annual training in which they review sample cases similar to real-life situations.

If the draft were to be implemented, registrants with low lottery numbers will be ordered to report for a physical, mental, and moral evaluation at a Military

Entrance Processing Station to determine whether they are fit for military service.

Once he is notified of the results of the evaluation, a registrant will be given 10 days to file a claim for exemption, postponement, or deferment.

At that time, board members will begin reviewing and deciding the outcome of the individual registrant's case.

Qualifications for becoming a local board member are: 1) Must be a US citizen 2) Must be 18 years old 3) Males must be registered 4) Must not be an employee of any law enforcement 5) Must not be an active or retired member of the Armed Forces or Reserve/National Guard and 6) Must not have been convicted of any criminal offense.

If you are interested in serving on the Selective Service local board or would like more information, contact Mike Schofield at 281-494-5070.

While the case remains under investigation, one man has been arrested for his part in a smoke shop robbery.

On October 16, 2013, Sheriff’s deputies were called to the High Dreamz smoke shop in the 9900 block of Highway 6 to investigate an armed robbery.

Sheriff’s spokesman Bob Haenel said, “A black male entered the store with a gun and demanded money from the clerk.

The suspect took money from the cash register, cigarettes, cigars, and a box of glass pipes.” That man then met with a coconspirator in the parking and they fled the scene, explained Haenel.

A short time later a deputy spotted the suspects’ vehicle in Rosenberg, identified the license plate, and obtained a warrant issued by Precinct 3 Justice of

the Peace Ken Cannata.

The suspect, Robert Dozier, 41, of Richmond, was arrested by Rosenberg Police officers on Friday.

At press time Dozier remains in the Fort Bend County Jail under a $50,000 bond.

Haenel said detectives are still looking for the other suspect. He was described as a black male with a medium build. At the time of the robbery he was wearing a gray hoodie and baggy shorts.

The case remains under investigation.

Anyone who may have knowledge of the second suspect may call Fort Bend County Crime Stoppers at 281-342-TIPS (8477).

out the best in people and according to Sara's Mom, Rachel, that could not be truer for Sara Jane.

"Her smile is contagious and her sweet demeanor can break down the strongest of wills," said Rachel. "Her curiosity for the world forces you to stop and smell the roses. She has a quiet confidence that speaks through her eyes from a soul well beyond her years."

Along with carrying the winning title for Hope for Three 2014 The Many Faces of Autism calendar, Sara Jane will grace the cover of 1,000 calendars.

She also earned $250, which her parents and family friend, Christie Johnson (unofficial photographer), decided to donate back to Hope for Three in an effort to assist other families.

Joining Sara Jane are 12 winners who coveted a title for each month of the year.

The tax deductible cost of the 2014 The Many Faces of Autism calendar is $10 and will be available October 14.

Purchases can be made via the Hope for Three website www.hopeforthree.org/shop43/ or call 1-800-317-0787.

With fall around the corner and the holiday season not far behind, Houston Methodist Sugar Land Hospital is once again offering Fort Bend residents the opportunity to “give a gift and beat the flu.”

Houston Methodist Sugar Land Hospital, in collaboration with the Exchange Club of Sugar Land, Fort Bend Exchange Club, Rotary Club of Sugar Land, Rotary Club of Fort Bend and Toys for Tots Fort Bend, is offering free flu shots on Saturday, November 2 to community members who participate in Santa’s Gift Exchange.

Fort Bend and surrounding area residents can bring a new, unwrapped toy or clothing item to Houston Methodist Sugar Land Hospital from 8 a.m. to noon in exchange for a free flu shot. The toys and clothing will benefit local children in the Fort Bend area.

“We are proud to partner with the local exchange clubs and Toys for Tots once again to provide this community offering,” said Chris Siebenaler, CEO of Houston Methodist Sugar Land Hospital. “This is a great way for the community to stay healthy while also putting smiles on children’s faces during the holiday season.”

In 2012, Santa’s Gift Exchange provided toys and clothing to more than 4,000 economically disadvantaged children in Fort Bend County. “Everyone's help is needed to meet the challenge of providing toys for our children who will not have toys this year without our help,” said Farha Ahmed, co-chairman of Santa’s Gift Exchange 2013.

If you would like to participate in this community event, please bring an unwrapped, new toy or clothing item to the main lobby of Houston Methodist Sugar Land Hospital between

Join Southminster School on Thursday, November 7, from 9:30-10:00, for a special ceremony and prayer around the flagpole as the students remember our Veterans.

Please email Christy Balenene ([email protected]) by October 25 with the names of family members who have served or are currently serving our country and indicate his/her branch of service.

They will be honored on Southminster's Family Honor Roll and their names will be read during the ceremony. Unfortunately, we will not be able to add names to the honor

roll after October 25 so please send them in before the deadline.

The ceremony is open to anyone who wishes to join us in prayer for our men and women in the Armed Forces. Veterans who plan to attend are asked to RSVP. They want to properly prepare for their special guests.

The school children would like to recognize the Veterans who attend the ceremony with a special ribbon. Members of the Stafford ROTC Color Guard and Elkins ROTC Drill Team will be participating in the ceremony. Colonel Tom Ehlinger from Stafford High School will be the guest speaker.
