in Ordinary Time - Brief Thought “Woe to the complacent in Zion!” Are we complacent, do we settle for the status quo? Looking at the many half-filled pews each Sunday, do you say, “Oh well, that’s just how it is.”? No! In his letter to Timothy, Saint Paul instructs us: “pursue righteousness, devo-tion, faith, love, patience, and gentleness. Compete well for the faith.” There is no room for complacency. With love, patience, devotion and gentleness, invite someone to come to Mass with you next week. Com-pete well for the faith.

Second Collection of last Week End

Last week’s second collection was for the Clergy Health and Retirement Trust which cares for our priests. Saint Padre Pio Today, Sunday, September 25th, there is a special Mass

at 3:00 pm in honor os St. Padre Pio (the 10:30 Mass is can-celled for that day). The procession will follow in the usual format, and the Eucharistic Benediction will conclude the religious part. Afterwards, refreshments will be served in the church hall. Everyone is welcome.

The Benefit Banquet in honor of St. Padre Pio will take place on Saturday, October 1st at 6:00 pm at the Irish Ameri-can Club. Tickets ($70 per person) can be purchased at the Parish office until Monday, September 26. Some of the pro-ceeds will be sent to one of the earth quake relief agencies in Italy.

BAUTISMOS: los Bautismos son el último sábado de cada mes y serán a las 12:00 del día. El curso para padres y padrinos es el jueves anterior al día del bautismo en el “Basement” de la casa parroquial 38 Oakes St. Los padres y padrinos deben participar en la misa de las 7:00 p.m. y acto seguido en el curso. Es indispensable inscribirse previamente en el despacho parroquial en horas de oficina. Se debe traer una copia del certificado de nacimiento del niño. No está per-mitido inscribir a los niños en la misma noche del curso. Los padrinos de bautismos deben ser católicos y mayores de 16 años.

CLASES PARA ADULTOS: Si alguno de ustedes no ha hecho los sacramentos o conocen personas que todavia no se han bautizado, no tienen la primera comunión o la confir-mación se pueden inscribir en la catequesis para adultos.

INTENCIONES: recordamos a la comunidad que pa-ra la poner intenciones en la misa o hacer presentaciones de niños lo pueden hacer 15 minutos antes de la celebración, en la sacristía.

San Padre Pio Oggi la Santa Messa in onore di San Padre Pio si cele-

bra alle 3:00 del pomeriggio (la Messa delle 10:30 è cancel-lata). Seguirá la processione e si concluderá con la benedizione eucaristica in chiesa. Ci sarà un rinfresco, subi-to dopo, nel salone sotto la chiesa.

Il banchetto di beneficienza in onore di San Padre Pio avrà luogo sabato primo di ottobre alle 6:00 pm, presso l’I-rish American Club. I biglietti ($70 a persona) si possono acquistare fino a domani, lunedì 26 Settembre. Una parte del ricavato verrà donato in beneficienza per i terremotati in Italia.

One of The Greatest Saints of All Times.

On June 16, 2002, Pope John Paul II canonized in Rome Padre Pio of Pietrelcina, one of the greatest saints of all times. There are saints who have been known for healing; there are saints who could "read" souls; there are saints who were known for levitation; there were saints who bore the stigmata, or were seen in apparition, or who had the “odor of sanctity.” There are saints who could understand languages they didn't know. But Padre Pio of Pietrelcina, who died on Sep-tember 23, 1968, had all these charisms, and more. In fact, not since St. Francis of Assisi has there been such a miracle-worker.
