First Reading: Isaiah 43:16-21

God says not to remember the events from long ago, but to focus on the things he plans to do next. He also claims he will again help his chosen people when they need him.

Second Reading: Philippians 3:8-14

Paul describes knowledge of Jesus as more important than knowledge of the Old Law. He wishes to share in the power of Jesus' resurrection, and speaks of concentrating on the finish line of the race with salvation as the prize to be won.

Gospel: John 8:1-11

Jesus preached forgiveness of sin, but in the old law those accused of adultery were to be stoned. So the Pharisees tried to trap Jesus and brought a woman accused of adultery to him, asking him what he would do to her. Jesus asked that one without sin cast the first stone, and then all of the elders left. Jesus told the woman that he did not condemn her, but warned her to avoid such sin in the future.

A FRESH PERSPECTIVE ON THE SUNDAY READINGS: HIS WORD TODAY by Rev. William J. Reilly Fifth Sunday of Lent - March 13, 2016

“I wish to know Christ and the power flowing from his resurrection; likewise to know how to share in his sufferings by being formed into the pattern of his death. Thus do I hope that I may arrive at resurrection from the dead. It is not that I have received it yet, or have already finished my course; but I am racing to grasp the prize if possible, since I have been grasped by Christ. Brothers I do not think of myself as having reached the finish line.” What a great difference between knowing about someone and knowing that person. The first may include statistics and data, the second a relationship. Lent has been our special moment to foster and strengthen our relationship with Jesus Christ. He reaches out to me, grasps me by the hand, holds and sustains me. I can rest, I can resist, I can reject or I can accept with eagerness and joy. Paul accepted as he continued his journey, the race. The forgiveness Jesus offered in the gospel, after tracing in the sand, is the gift I seek, as I continue my race, my journey to Easter. The gift of mercy is being offered to me. The nonjudgmental statement of Jesus, “let the man among you who has no sin be the first to cast a stone at her.” The Jesus I want to know is the forgiving Jesus, filled with tender mercy. He knows me, my needs, and I want to know Him.

To deepen your own understanding of these crucial matters as well s the understanding of your brothers and sisters, Google: “USCCB Laudato Si’: On Care For Our Common Home. Discussion Guide.” Consider using this guide in meetings of your parish ministries or forming a group to study Laudato Si’ using this guide.

Congratulation to our

7th grade girls who won the

C Division Westchester County

Championship!

After trailing for three and a half quarters the girls played

incredible girl to girl defense and caused several turnovers

which allowed them to finally take the lead which they

never relinquished. Every girl contributed to this win in one

way or another. Truly a team effort.

Once again we would like to congratulate these girls and

the coaches who have put so much time and energy into

this season. Great job everyone we are so proud!
